Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Morris.
Tracy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a very challenging household with no positive male role models and with little direction in my life. The primary reason I started to start a mentoring program was to provide an opportunity and direction to young men that may not otherwise have.
As I looked around wanting to develop a program and serve young people I found there was nothing serving the whole child… Sure there are tutoring programs and sports programs but what about a program that helped young people make good decisions and real why they should?
So I thought what did I need and want? The formula that I came up with addresses character development and pride in self first. From there a child would want to make good decisions, get better grades and be a benefit to their friends, family and community.
When we launched in 2013 we had 3 youth and have now grown to 42. Meeting each Saturday our activities range from Personal and Professional development workshops and Campus Tours to Volunteering and Kayaking trips. We have graduated two classes thus far and at this time have 100 % acceptance to four-year Universities.
We have come far but still, have a long way to go.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everything has its bumps and our challenges have primarily been parental engagement. However, with each challenge is an opportunity and to assist parents we have formed a parent advisory group with mandatory quarterly meetings.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Blue Heart Foundation – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Blue Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on the education and empowerment of underserved youth ages 13-18 in the greater San Diego County community. We believe that a college education can change a community. As part of our commitment to local students, we have established a partnership with UCSD, SDSU, USD and CSU San Marcos use of office/ boardroom facilities, campus tours and in some cases admission agreements.
We also have volunteers from local universities and professionals in a variety of fields that will serve as advisors, role models, advocates and life coaches.
Blue Heart has been designed with one goal in mind: to help our students plan their future. With assessment tools (CSU Mentor), occupation profile and guidance, and comprehensive post-secondary education information, students move seamlessly through the academic and career planning process
My proudest moments are watching young men have Aha! Moments and they begin to see their future come together.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plan is to continue building infrastructure while at the same time working to break ground on a Blue Heart College Prep Academy

One of the Greatest Orgainzations that I have the pleasure of assisting with. Tracy, however did not mention that the program runs on donations sololy. Like most non-profits there is more need than resources. Sometimes things as little as the initial membership fee for uniforms is a challenge for parent(s) to come up with. That said, you can donate at http://www.theblueheartfoundation.org
