Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Bjornson.
Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hey all! Well, my journey as a photographer began while I was attending the Art Institute Of San Diego. Although I was getting my degree in marketing (which hey now helps as well) I took a photography class and fell in love. It was the exact form of expression my mind craved. My Photography instructor was a wedding photographer and I was memorized by her images, the feeling they gave me, the colors they all spoke to me and I knew in that very moment this was what I wanted to do. It did not come easy, I had to pretty much had to self-teach, do my classes, my homework, and then at night stay up late researching and pursuing my real passion, all while being a single parent of young twins at the time. But, a lesson to be taken here is that anything is possible if you truly want it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Far from smooth, so many mistakes but they always say you learn better when you learn the hard way? Well, it’s at least true for me. I think the biggest mistake and challenge I will say is running the business itself. Creating the art seems to come easy and let’s face it, why we plunge into our dream job. Essentially, there are so many more working parts than I ever thought of. So, my words of advice are don’t try to do it all your self, ask for help, outsource, price your self, so you do not fail in the long run. Brand your self correctly, be a good human and work hard!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about By Amy Lynn Photography – what should we know?
I am mainly a wedding photographer, I do work with small brands and do creative portraits as well. Pretty much I love to photograph people. I love people who are in love, who love their business and who are passionate. I can say, what I love most about doing my job is the connections I get to make, the friendships that start. I have clients that start with their wedding, and I go on to photography every milestone in the family from engaged, to married, to pregnant, baby #1 and most of the time baby # 2 + 3 and then even into a new business, pretty much I stay connected. That’s what I love! People who trust in me, my vision and my process.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
What holds us back or what are females doing that is holding us back.
