Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Abbott.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was little, I loved fashion, hair, and makeup. I’ve always loved makeup and I did it for fun but I never thought of taking it seriously and thinking of it as a career path but eight months ago, I created a makeup account on Instagram and now, it’s what I would like to do for my career. Not only do people’s makeup of events, but I would like to create my own brand. My account has grown quickly which has been amazing and I’ve made so many friends in the beauty community. I’ve had my friends and family’s support since the beginning.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I haven’t faced many obstacles but it hasn’t been a smooth road either. In March, I became very overwhelmed with always posting and always having to do my makeup. I had to manage school, my make up account, friends, and family which was difficult. So, I decided to take a break. I wasn’t sure how long I was going to be on break. I just thought whenever I’m ready, I’ll go back. I took a 3-week break. During those three weeks, I didn’t do my makeup at all. I needed that time to just grow and have some time away. Three weeks later, I decided to go back. It felt like the right time and I was ready to do my makeup again. For anyone starting their journey, make sure you take time for yourself. Do rush anything, really think things through and don’t pressure yourself.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a makeup artist/influencer. The thing I’m most proud of is my makeup account and how much I’ve grown. I’m a Latina so that’s one thing that sets me apart from others. But not only that I grew up with one parent for most of my life and it’s made me who I am. My mom has always done her best to make sure I had what I wanted and needed. She’s played both parental roles since I was five and that’s what made me who I am now.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
There are two women who have inspired me in my life. My mom and my cousin Amy. They have both always been in my life and always have wanted the best for me. My mom planed both roles as a mom and a dad in my life. She has made me who I am today. She’s so loving and she works so hard just to make sure I have everything I need. My cousin Amy has always been someone I look up to. She got good grades in high school and now, she’s in college to become a registered nurse. They are two of the most hard-working people I know and they have both made me who I am today.
