Today we’d like to introduce you to Aurora Bacon.
Aurora, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Previously, I lived in Jacksonville, FL. After high school, I found myself working typical 9-5 jobs that had no relation for my passion in the fashion industry. One day after lots of research, I stumbled upon a prominent local fashion stylist. I took a leap of faith by emailing her and asked if I could meet her. I wanted to see what she did as a stylist and how she got started. This eventually turned into an internship. This led me to working fashion segments on the local news, runway shows and styling models for St. Augustine’s Old City Life Magazine. I just moved to San Diego so I’ve been using my Instagram as a personal blog and my YouTube channel for more content.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting started for me wasn’t the easiest, to be honest. I used to live in Jacksonville, FL which isn’t a very fashion-conscious city so finding a stylist to intern for was a struggle. Since I just moved to San Diego it’s kind of like starting from scratch again. The best part about living here in San Diego is that there are way more opportunities. My advice for other women who are just starting their journey is to go after what you want. I know that may sound pretty cliche but it’s the truth. You have to put yourself out there. Look up fashion stylists in your area and reach out to them. If you use Instagram as a platform to upload content, BE CONSISTENT! I can’t express that enough. I struggle with that at times because everyone gets busy in their daily life. Last, try to attend fashion/beauty events that are in your city or close by. This will give you the opportunity to network with people that have the same interests as you. If you don’t know anyone at the event, try bringing a friend or a close relative for comfort.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a fashion blogger/aspiring stylist. I love the opportunities that come along with this. Being able to meet so many different people and attending fashion-related events is pretty awesome. I truly enjoy sharing my creativity with the world. I’ve always loved following fashion bloggers to get style inspiration so being able to inspire others is such a blessing. It’s difficult to say that I’m set apart from anyone else. I believe that everyone has certain desires and goals. I can only say that my personality drives me to persevere with great determination to achieve anything that I truly want in life.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Yes, most definitely. Women are well-positioned for many positions today. They are excelling in many areas of entrepreneurship. There are so many other opportunities today for women but sadly, in some areas, we can be discriminated against.
