Meet Trailblazer Beth Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Mitchell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Beth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been creative.
My mom and my sister and I would always make everything when we were younger.

My business is really Pinterest Inspired. I started making things and creating a few years ago and people kept saying “I want one” or “show me how to do that.”

So, workshops started happening in my garage. Making succulent wreaths, charcuterie boards, and wood signs.

We now offer signs, planter boxes succulent classes, chunky knit blankets, glass etching, and more specialty artists.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road being self-employed and a small start-up.

I think being able to pivot is the name of the game. Find what your clients want and offer more of that to them. I think we get stuck in our own mind what is right but that doesn’t really matter if clients want/need different things.

My advice to young women starting a business is to start small and build slowly without debt. Keep overhead low and build a loyal clientele

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I love teaching and leading DIY workshops showing others how to be creative and leave feeling proud of what they have created. My workshops are fun and the best part is you can’t stain and be on the cell phone (ha) so people really connect.

I’m most proud of the foolproof process I have made to teach others and let them leave with an item they can hang on a wall or gift.

What sets me apart is my care for my clients and helping them create custom pieces. We aren’t a big-box retailer. You leave with something in your hands made by you or a real person.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
The biggest barriers are just ramping up and having name recognition and volume to keep up with all the structure that’s in place. Having a brick and mortar has helped me gain market awareness but also came with more overhead
