Meet Trailblazer Brenda Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Jimenez.

Brenda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After a tragic event in my life, I started working at a restaurant to be able to support my then 6-month-old baby girl. I worked my way up to becoming a bartender and that’s when my passion for craft cocktails began. I continued to go to school and eventually landed a marketing assistant job in the Real Estate Industry. I was fascinated by being able to help first time home buyers and retirees with their first home or last transaction in their lifetime. I got licensed four years ago and I focused on my real estate career full time. I am full of creative ideas and I had previously created a mobile bartending service that I eventually turned in to a blog. The craft cocktail blog is what keeps me inspired and my creative side flowing which I love!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been smooth, nothing is! The hardest part for me was pursuing my passions and being able to make a living out of it as a single mom. I think that is the hardest part for young and entrepreneurial women/mothers. For me personally, it has been a challenge to maintain a work-life balance. Especially when you start your own business and have to give it all your time and effort to make it work. Definitely, something all women can relate to because of our nurturing nature and wanting to make your loved ones happy too. My advice is taking the time to really think about what’s more important to you to be happy. Having a clear picture of how you see yourself in your career and personal life is very important to obtain the long term fulfillment.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My career involves helping people achieve financial freedom through real estate investment. The American Dream is possible for EVERYONE, even in San Diego! I get so much fulfillment in helping a family achieve that goal because I know they are building their net worth through owning real estate. I am very proud to be able to call my clients good friends and be part of their lives and grow with them.

On my creative craft cocktail blog/service, I want to share my knowledge with others, create quality recipes ANYONE can enjoy!

The thing that sets me apart from others is that I genuinely care and I emerge myself into whatever I am working on to be able to understand and provide a more tailored service.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
We are so lucky, we have the advantage of technology today, that makes it so easy to find groups with similar interests. Is important to find people whom we admire and would like to model our business from. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and be humble to really listen to what they have to say. Every day is a new opportunity to learn something new and we get to decide who we learn it from.

I was lucky to work alongside people with years of experience in the real estate industry. I learned how they did things, then later, I took the best approach and also added my own ideas.

I’ve attended (and continue to attend) seminars and workshops to learn and know the latest trends, etc.
