Meet Trailblazer Brooke Flynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Flynn.

Brooke, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in San Diego, I was blessed with exposure to many avenues of wellness. I have always been active and sensitive, and from a young age knew that I wanted to work with people and animals. My studies took me through the Human Sciences, Psychology and Sociology, where I was able to further develop my understanding of the individual and society as a whole. I went on to study Massage Therapy, exploring more of the physical body and its correlation to the mind and spirit. After graduation, I traveled overseas, experiencing the diversity within this global human experience and continued environmental education with Natural Earth Building and Permaculture courses as well as Herbalism. My most recent venture was to Mexico where I studied to become a Holistic Doula or birth assistant.

When I returned to San Diego in 2016, I was introduced to Trilogy Sanctuary. Trilogy Sanctuary is an amazing community space, which strives to hold and promote harmonious relations for all, offering plant-based organic food, various yoga classes, workshops and event experiences. I have come to understand that it is essential for me to express through movement, live spiritually, and connect with community, which lays at the root of my desire to share well-being through progressive services, products, and art.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many, my story travels a rocky road with hardships, traumas, and addictions. In our society, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on women (and men) to look and behave a certain way. I feel that in our Western culture we are not encouraged to express our emotions. I feel this was the biggest obstacle for me, to feel so deeply and yet not feel safe to express it. I believe it is of the utmost importance to allow our emotions to flow through us, to process and release them as they come. Otherwise, these feelings may be stored in our physical bodies and further manifest as mis-alignments or dis-ease. I feel that finding ways of expressing Self through art, movement, connection with others and Nature has helped me to embrace and express myself more fully, as well as to be more fully present with others.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am the Creative Director of Trilogy Sanctuary and an Artist at heart. My intention is to continue creating safe spaces for community to heal and expand and to offer progressive alternatives that support and build harmonious relations with the planet as well. I wish to hold space for everyone to connect more intimately with the body, mind, spirit, and Earth through loving, organic exploration and creativity.

Day to day, you can find me practicing and teaching yoga and aerial yoga, and fire dancing at our events. I find movement practices offer the mind-body experience that is vital for health. These are still personally transformative, teaching more balance, peace, and strength. I also curate new products within our eco-conscious boutique, TOTEM, and craft goods. I am proud to be a part of an authentic family that is paving a new path, one that is more sustainable and rewarding for everyone.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I feel connection is everything and being open to experiences that come my way, both invigorating and uncomfortable and intimidating, has proven to be beneficial. I feel the Universe has a mysterious way of working sometimes so being receptive and trusting of that flow is always important. Everyone can be a teacher, everything a lesson.
