Today we’d like to introduce you to Cher Rue.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a plus size actress. I started putting together Plus size fashion shows to help Plus size designers and model to achieve their dreams. I loved it. I was asked to be a Executive Director for a plus size beauty pageant. I knew nothing about pageants but I loved the Sisterhood and the Charity work that this system Miss Plus America embraced. I love helping others and to mentor women was a big part of who I am, so it seemed like a great fit. I have been the director for five years and I love all the women, their journeys and who they empower along the way. It is a great platform to make a difference in the world for plus size women.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is not a smooth road, lots of struggles with women in their lives, we have an amputee who was a State Queen and now a Lifetime Ambassador, several women who are cancer survivors, molested women, mothers who have special needs children, and they all push through to inspire others, this truly amazes me and I feel blessed to know these women. I feel all women should go for their dreams and also help others along the way. Teamwork is important and you can always ask for help. I would suggest they research anything they are interested in and even if it seems a bit scary going out of your comfort zone.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about California Plus America Beauty Pageant – what should we know?
My work is about inspiring women who are plus size and showing them beauty is inside and not your size.
I am so proud of my brand California Plus America, I have a great team, an awesome PR company Elsinore PR Rachel Mendez who gets the word out on Social media of all the charity work we do. We have won the Community Service awards at Nationals twice and I love this. I don’t know what sets us apart from others we just focus on what California Plus America is doing to get our message and work out in the world.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel that being plus size now is more common, so many women around the world are size 12 and up and so many are not hiding at home anymore. I feel there are equal opportunities that all women are positioned for we are all women just different sizes and shapes. I know my queens can do anything that they want to do.
