Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Botticelli.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with me working for a Non Profit in 2006 called Invisible Children. I got hired as a Roadie and basically my job was to empower the youth of America in order to end a war in Uganda. This was significant because I met my best friend. We’d have long work days where we would make cold calls all day convincing schools churches and collages to let us come and show this documentary. There were fifty of us living in a 5 bedroom house and after work me and my best friend Marcus would always get people pumped and play really fun upbeat music and get everyone to dance and have a good time. This eventually turned into us being asked to do house party’s and so we bought a $45 mixer off amazon. We were the party pumpers and amateur djs. We did that for about 6 months then one of our really good friends asked us to Dj her wedding and he told her there is no way we could ever do that, we were terrified to have such a huge responsibility. She eventually convinced us and it went great, better than great. We got asked to Dj five more weddings. We talked and decided we could really make this into something. Here we are thirteen years later.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been a really great one, I’ve got to work with amazing people built an incredible community of super talented people and I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to do something I love and believe in so much.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The New Ivy League – what should we know?
I own and operate The New Ivy League a dj service company. What I believe sets us apart from other company’s, and Djs is we really love and care about what we do and we are super honored every time someone chooses to go with us, to trust us with the best day of their lives. We love that 20, 30 years down the road they will be looking at pictures from their wedding day and telling their kids how much fun it was, how good the music was. We get to be a part of their history, a part of their story.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe what has worked well for us is learning our craft, becoming the best you can at it. We rely on word to mouth so every event, every wedding we give them our best. That’s how we always get booked that’s how we stay in business.
