Today we’d like to introduce you to Demi Marie Rangel.
Demi Marie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was 14 when I started writing and since then it’s always been an outlet for me. Back in April 2018, I found out that my husband had been cheating on me. I was devastated but it led me down a path that allowed me to find myself and my faith again and that’s when I decided to take my poetry public.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Be true to yourself, as cheesy as it sounds. I’ve wasted too many years trying to fit in with other people’s ideas that I lost my self trying to be what everyone thought I should be and not being me.
This year, I’ve had to face one of my biggest challenges yet… I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks. There are no words to convey the time pain you fee when you hear the doctor say “there is no heartbeat.” This was not even the hardest part the hardest part for me was mourning the loss of something most people believe wasn’t anything in the first place. I remember people would say things like “it wasn’t a baby” and “you’re not over it yet” are just some… I was being judged for mourning, and I just want to let every single woman that walks around with a huge hole in your womb because you went home without your babies… you are still their mothers! And you mourn their absence, however, you feel is right! Don’t let anyone tell you how you should or should not feel!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I write mostly short poems and quotes, here and there I will write longer poems/stories on my blog, stay tuned one day, I will finally write that book I always say I’m going to.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mother has been a huge inspiration in my life, she loves endlessly! No matter what I wanted to do or the choices I’d make… my mother always supported me and encouraged me to be and do my best in everything.
