Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuelle Takahashi.
Emmanuelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in Paris, France, I always wanted to help others and had this undeniable belief in people’s potential. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in an undergraduate program to study business that allowed me to travel and study abroad. I had always wanted to live in the United States and had a chance to study in Michigan. After graduating, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and start my own business. Life coaching was becoming popular at the time (in the early 2000s). It made perfect sense to me to become certified in life coaching and hypnotherapy as this would combine my desire to be my own boss, my business knowledge running a practice and my wish to help others be the best they can be.
Through ups and downs due to personal and external factors, I navigated through the coaching world from being a life coach to directing educational programs and now focusing on talent development, organizational culture, and empowering women.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is any road ever smooth? Of course, there were many obstacles and challenges along the way.
Something that we don’t always talk about is how the 2008 economic crash affected personal relationships and marriages too, not just businesses. I first got married in 2006 to an American man from Philadelphia and got divorced in 2009. There were personal challenges in our marriage but, like many divorces, one of the causes was money. Starting a business in a down economy can be very rewarding but also stressful and scary for the risk-averse.
Divorce can make you go through the same stages as grief. It was hard to cope with it and run a business while dealing with the emotional and financial toll. The lack of confidence and worry about the future didn’t help either.
Women are so strong and courageous. They are able to go through the most trying times and still take care of everyone else. My advice to other young women is to love yourself no matter what and know that you have everything you need within you to create the life you want and deserve, Everyday, remind yourself of your power and be fearless and confident, knowing that every time you fall, you will be right back up. oh and these emotions you go through, live them, embrace them and build on them. Despite what our patriarchal society teaches us, this is where our strength lies.
