Meet Trailblazer Heidi Hawkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Hawkins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Heidi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’d always worked since I was 15. My new normal started in 1999. I had to stop working at the beginning of my second trimester because I was carrying triplets. Thankfully, at 32 weeks, I delivered three healthy babies. I never went back to work because a paycheck would really only cover childcare. I was blessed to be able to attend every field trip, take care of sick kids at home, and be there for all the firsts.

The downside of this, like lots of moms know, is I was losing myself. I was only “the triplets’ mom”. The older my kids got and especially after they could drive, I was just out there, bored to tears and dying for adult interaction.

I tried a couple of Direct Selling businesses but they just weren’t doing it for me. Then, in May 2017, I was offered the opportunity to jump in on the ground floor of a new company. I really took a leap of faith because I hadn’t even tried the product. I am so glad I did. Over the last 2 1/2 years, as a Founding Stylist, Color Street has provided more than I could’ve asked for. Even if you take money out of the equation, my joy coffers are full. The women I’ve met within the company will be my friends forever. The bonds we’ve created are strong. I’ve also met so many amazing people out and about.

I’ve been able to find myself again. I have my own business that I run the way I want, make my own hours, and I have the opportunity to make women feel a little bit better about themselves. The company’s mission is “supporting and empowering a person’s spirit & individuality. We celebrate entrepreneurs and inspire them to pave the road to personal success”. And they really do.

In July 2018, the Color Street Foundation was created. Through sales of exclusive designs, the foundation gives on average $100,000 to a variety of causes. I love that Color Street is passionate about giving back to the community and raising awareness for the important work of these organizations.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Multi-level marketing gets a really bad rap. Really bad. They get confused with Pyramid Schemes, which are illegal. There are Pyramid Schemes that try to disguise themselves as MLM and that’s where the confusion comes in. Traditional MLM programs are legal because there is a real product that is being sold.

I feel like now is the time of the “side hustle”. So many people are doing something on the side to make a little (or a lot) of extra money. The struggle between being a working mom or staying home with your kids is real. Going from two incomes to one isn’t always possible. MLM companies, like Color Street, can solve that.

Please tell us about Celtic Kitten – what should we know?
My work is so fun and so not “work”. I get to meet tons of people in all kinds of situations. I love doing vendor events because I meet people from all walks of life. One on one meetups over coffee are fun too. I’ve also been involved with a fundraiser for the SD Humane Society. One of my passions is fostering kittens so I was thrilled to be involved. Color Street is such an easy, inexpensive way to put a smile on someone’s face.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Color Street was the vision of our Founder and CEO, Fa Park. Watching a woman trying to paint her nails in a cab back in 1984, he knew “there had to be a better way”. He experimented with traditional nail polish on different types of paper and the nail polish strip was born.

Originally in retail, Mr. Park had the vision to move into direct sales and Color Street was born in June of 2017. Now thousands of mostly women are running their own businesses. Some for a little extra spending money and some to completely start over or escape a bad situation. I think the success of all of these women is far beyond Mr. Park’s dream for Color Street.

Our Mission:
Color Street is a creative beauty brand with limitless possibilities. We believe in supporting and empowering a person’s spirit & individuality. We celebrate entrepreneurs and inspire them to pave the road to personal success.

No matter how BIG the dream, how BRILLIANT the sparkle, or how INTENSE the shine, it’s our goal to encourage every individual to ACHIEVE big dreams. Create your own path, grab the wheel, and let Color Street take you there.”
