Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalani Ward.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kalani. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story is more of “OUR story”, and it is not a short one. I say our story because it was never just me. My husband and I have been together for going on ten years we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs and have experienced much more life than your average 24-year-old. From becoming pregnant at 16 and graduating high school with a child to now having four kids, three dogs, a house where we help my mother and live with our best friend, literally just for fun. We have come a long way! Separately, my story and his story are impressive, to say the least, but together our story is inspiring.
As for the story that leads us to how we started our business; we have four kids! Our youngest is five months old and our oldest is six. Which means we have thrown 12 birthday parties! Not a single one was baby-friendly enough! Everyone knows that 1-year-olds can’t use jumpers, but we rent them anyways because what else are you gonna do for the little ones? Well, last year, we went to a birthday party where soft play toys were out for the kids and we loved the idea of having an entire set up JUST for babies. My husband has an entrepreneurial mindset and once his heart was set on something you best believe he is going to commit! Just after the holidays, we set out to start our business! I remember ordering everything on Amazon and the more and more boxes that came the more excited we got! Half of our garage was filled with boxes when we finally decided to start opening and figure out how the hell we were going to do this!
Has it been a smooth road?
There will always be struggles when starting a business! As it is, we are still a new business in our first year. We aren’t quite as busy as we’d like to be, but we are thankful for what we have and we do our best to keep up with our social media and ads to keep ourselves relevant! To keep our business successful, we needed to ensure that it was a passion! I had a business about three years ago and after about a year, I fell out of love with what I was doing. It didn’t make it for longer than one year. I loved what I had built and the time I put into it was worth it, but I didn’t love what I was doing anymore and that was important to keep our business going. We had learned from our mistakes and kept moving forward!

Our business is the perfect solution for toddler entertainment from 1st birthdays to weddings to corporate events! We come to the place of your event and set up our soft play zone. We take pride in the fact that not only are we business owners but we are parents and we understand that things happen. We are accommodating for our clients and happy to help in whatever way. We differ from competitors mainly in look and price. We wanted this to be an affordable option as well as good looking! When choosing color schemes rather than having the tradition blue/yellow/red scheme, we went for bright turquoise and white so it would really pop! We also realized that kids LOVE ball pits and my husband loved the idea that rather than just having balls in the pit to also having them border the empty space between the gate and mats! Our son proved his point the moment we set him in it for the first time by diving into the balls along with the gates and “swimming” the length of the gates! He made my husband proud. And that’s why we do what we do is for moments exactly like those! We are a business made by parents for parents and that is made clear by all our effort to ensure each event goes off without a hitch on our end!
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Women are amazing at making the world less ugly. The women I know create art and beauty, they do it because they care! It’s a passion to make others feel better by their works of art. A woman with passion is unstoppable and that goes for any industry!
