Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Hauser.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been on a radical healing trajectory myself for more than a decade. I really got started doing the work I’m doing now through my own struggles and transformation. In my teenage years, I had an interest in obstetrics and gynecology from a medical point of view; however, I grew up in an environment where my parents advocated for healthcare outside of the western medical paradigm. So, I had to face the reality that my understanding of the human body and experience wasn’t in alignment with a medical doctor’s trajectory. For a while, I really stepped away from my desire to study medicine, in any form, and instead pursued a degree in Spanish Language and Literature and learned an immense amount about myself and the world through traveling. Meanwhile, I was struggling with my own identity as a woman and with my womb and hormonal health. These challenges led me to seek out care and information about how to shift my situation and take control of my own vitality. This path evolved and has had many twists and turns, including yoga study and practice, a degree in Chinese Medicine, a women’s holistic sexuality certification, studies in somatic sex education and trauma resolution. My most recent evolution has come through motherhood and cultivating a deeper sense of resilience through mothering at this time on earth. More than ever, I’m committed to the evolution of medicine and sex education that changes culture to value our humanity and real potential for all life has to offer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road all the time. Initially, my struggles were related to my own health and my relationship to femininity and sexuality as part of the work needed to find healing. Once I began to address those things for myself, I struggled to find my way back to a formal path of study that felt like a good fit for laying the groundwork for helping other women and people with female anatomy. Once I started taking those first steps, things became more and more clear. It’s been similar to my business journey. Things are always evolving and growing as I also grow and change. Taking action steps; however small or insignificant they may seem, is essential when getting started with anything. If you are just starting out on a healing journey or starting a business, I really recommend taking that first step and trusting yourself enough to find your footing along the way. It’s not always easy. Some parts and decisions are easier than others and it’s about finding yourself and enjoying yourself along the way.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Acupuncturist, Herbalist and Somatic Sex Educator. My work is unique because I’m weaving and holding many different viewpoints. I have extensive knowledge about female anatomy, hormones, physiology and biology. My background also includes yoga, birth work, somatics and of course my master’s degree in East Asian Medicine. I specialize in helping women reclaim their vitality and sexuality from fertility to postpartum and make sovereign choices about their reproductive health. I’m living this work in my own life and share from an embodied place of experience. I honor the body’s process and healing trajectory and trust each person’s capacity to find the inner medicine that they need for transformation. I think what sets me apart from others is my capacity to be with complex womb health issues and discern what’s the most potent form of medicine needed. I have a way to ignite others into their own healing potential and inspire radical change when called for. I offer office visits for holistic womb centered healthcare, including acupuncture, herbal and lifestyle medicine, as well as vulva mapping, an embodied, healing experience of genital anatomy that isn’t clinical or sexual. Womb and sexual health education is an essential aspect of my work and I have online offerings structured around that. I strive to keep the future of medicine in mind while holding the vision of cultural change that understands and honors our very real human physiology.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I’m a white, cis-gendered woman who comes from an upper-middle-class family, so there is already a lot there as far as privilege goes. I had access to good education, support from my family and friends and a stable home environment. There is a lot that just went well and set my system up for success long term. However, what’s probably more interesting is the challenge I faced with my parent’s divorce as a teenager that really forced me to look at my own relationship to the feminine. I had a long, painful rupture with my mother, which turned me against myself in a lot of ways. I’ve unwound a lot of that and found it to be a source of strength, resilience and purpose. I know what I’m capable of due to what I’ve been through. That particular storyline has played a large role in my path and offerings.
