Meet Trailblazer Lauren Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Rodriguez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After contemplating for many months about diving into this highly competitive market, I began blogging on Instagram the Summer of 2017. I had a desire to share more of myself and my life via a creative outlet and so I started out with intentionally creating content of things that I enjoy the most which is fashion, home decor and just my daily lifestyle. While juggling a full-time job, all of my spare time is dedicated to creating, shooting, and planning content. It’s a time-consuming sacrifice, but when you’re enjoying what you are doing, it truly does not feel like you’re working.

Although the response wasn’t immediate, I slowly began seeing an increase in followers, likes and engagement on my posts. Little by little the numbers would grow but most importantly, I felt like my content was reaching and inspiring others. Instagram has been such a great tool for growing my following because it connects you with so many people around the world and even in your own city who love the same things you do, or even do the same thing as you! I really began seeing the difference at the beginning of this year after attending my very first blogger event in Napa, CA. After that amazing weekend of networking with so many other like-minded women, I felt inspired to continue doing what I was doing and to create content I know my followers would love and content I would be proud of.

Overall, I’m happy at the rate of growth my page is receiving, one of the most exciting accomplishments this year was being accepted into the RewardStyle family and finally having my followers be able to shop my Instagram. I’m still growing and learning so much about this ever-changing industry, but I hope to only continue going up from where I am.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the rules I’ve stuck to throughout this journey has been to remain transparent with my followers. In this business, you will be approached by a lot of different brands who like what they see and want you to market their products. I’ve had to turn down a few of those opportunities and I learned that’s okay because, at the end of the day, your followers can really tell when you genuinely are excited about a product, versus a sponsored ad about something you wouldn’t normally wear/use on a daily basis.

Another valuable lesson I’ve learned is knowing your worth when asked to collaborate with a brand. Your time is valuable and the content you create does have a price tag. When you’re just starting out it’s so easy to get excited about the idea of a company wanting to work with you, so I’ve definitely had to take a step back and really have a business mindset and counter these offers with an option that doesn’t only benefit one party.

Being a part of an industry where you are expected to be creative all of the time can be mentally and physically draining. I believe taking time for yourself and unplugging from social outlets is totally necessary from time to time. It’s so easy to get lost in this whole world of social media where you are constantly scrolling and comparing yourself and your content to those of others. My message for women who are just starting their journey is to not be discouraged. Don’t ever feel like there isn’t a place for you in this industry because just you being you is something that is already setting you apart from the rest. Everyone has something of value that’s worth sharing in any way you choose to express it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
I consider myself to be a digital influencer. A majority of what I share is related to fashion, home decor and lifestyle. I’m a firm believer in what sets you apart is simply just who you are as a person. I create content to inspire others whether that may be in what they decide to wear that day, or how to style their home or even what to do for fun. I pride myself mostly in the aesthetics of the content I produce and it’s definitely been one of the most popular things I’m known for.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
A book I really enjoyed reading was one called “Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media”.

My holy grail apps for blogging are: Planoly and RewardStyle.

I also try to watch several YouTube videos that motivate or discuss current topics or obstacles in the digital industry.
