Today we’d like to introduce you to Lj Sharman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up moving around a lot because my mom was a diplomat and we finally landed in Carlsbad, California during my high school years. I fell in love with hair because I didn’t know how to manage my own and I loved making people pretty. Now, I work with an amazing team at Headlines the Salon in Encinitas. We are a team of about 38 and it’s awesome. Blondes, balayage and color corrections are definitely my jam. It’s really about making each and every person that sits in my chair look and feel their absolute best. Giving them hair that is effortlessly beautiful is my goal.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? I don’t believe the road is ever smooth. Challenges and obstacles are always along the way. It’s about remembering that the obstacles are there to make us grow and as long as you keep trying you are bound to succeed.
We’d love to hear more about Hair by LJ Sharman at Headlines the salon.
As I said, I love being a hairstylist. It’s an amazing gift to be able to change someone’s image. Which is why I love doing corrective colors and blondes. They are definitely the most challenging and the most rewarding.
At Headlines the Salon, the whole team is so good about helping and learning from each other. Which in the long run just makes us all better stylist.
When I need to get my creative juices flowing, I love to conceptualize photoshoots. It’s such a great way to think outside the normal clientele limits and grow as a stylist.
Regardless if I’m working behind the chair or on set, my goal is always to be better than the time before.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think this is a better time than ever to be a woman. We are more present and more powerful than we have ever been. Our voices are being heard and they are loud. I think our opportunities are limitless and only we limit what we can or cannot do.
