Meet Trailblazer Lolita Korneagay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lolita Korneagay.

Lolita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Lolita Korneagay was enjoying her life as a registered nurse when her world came tumbling down. One moment she was on her feet at work, and the next she was bedridden thanks to symptoms of a chronic illness. She tried everything she could to minimize the pain, including high dosage pain pills and surgery, but nothing alleviated the pain she was enduring. Lolita decided to take matters into her own hands; she wanted her life back. So, she researched for hours on end until she discovered the one thing that completely erased her pain: medical marijuana.

She was very hesitant to try a drug that had so much stigma attached to it. Lolita didn’t want to experience being high, she just wanted her life back. Soon enough, she took the leap and began testing different dosages to see what worked for her. Sure enough, her pain disappeared immediately. Lolita had been through nursing school, yet she experienced great difficulty when it came to researching medical marijuana. She spent months familiarizing herself with the endocannabinoid system and how it works, which is something nursing school did not teach her. Lolita’s nursing background gave her the tools she needed to understand exactly what she was researching, but she also knew that the average person would have a hard time comprehending this information. So, after experiencing a profound “ah ha” moment, Lolita created a solution: Cansoom.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has had some bumps along the way, but the crooks and turns are what made the difference. I’ve had to pivot many times, which allowed my ideas and business to evolve in a way that I would have never imagined when I first started. My advice to everyone out there is that you should welcome and embrace change. Remember that we plan and God laughs! LOL! So when your original idea or concept takes on a new image, just go with it!

Please tell us about Cansoom. What should we know?
In 2017, I founded Cansoom and developed the most comprehensive, in-person Medical Cannabis Consultant training program for licensed medical professionals. Cansoom’s mission is to connect consumers with Medical Cannabis Consultants to make cannabis consumption easy and acceptable for everyone. To date, I have personally trained doctors, nurses, and therapists from over 20 states who now have the ability to pass on their cannabis knowledge to their communities nationwide. In addition, I created the Cansoom platform to contain an online searchable directory of licensed medical professionals, which makes it easy for consumers to find and connect with the right consultant.

Through hard work and research, I have made cannabis consumption safe for those who need it to cope with medical issues while also giving medical professionals the opportunity to learn about healthy cannabis consumption, own their own business, and become cannabis advocates.

On Thanksgiving day 2019, I released the first Cansoom aromatherapy candle! The Relax candle is made using coconut wax and is infused with 100% pure cannabis essential oil, which is rich in natural terpenes but does not contain THC or CBD. And this year, I plan on introducing a full aromatherapy product line.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Currently, less than 25 percent of cannabis businesses are run by women. I would like for individuals to be conscious consumers and pay attention to who they do business with and give their money to. Women, for instance, are the fastest-growing consumer demographic within the cannabis space. If women consumers are cognizant of which cannabis businesses are women-owned or women-led, they could have a huge impact on supporting those types of businesses.

Also, our society can play a role in the progress toward gender parity through women-friendly laws, policies, regulations, financial incentives, and the creation of economic opportunities.
