Meet Trailblazer Lyndsey Winters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsey Winters.

Lyndsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a San Diego professional hairstylist and makeup artist who has been in business since 2012. I specialize in many different beauty needs and desires. The beauty industry was not the route I thought I would take but I am forever grateful I put everything on the line to follow a passion. I always would lend a hand to my friends and family for their beauty needs. This evolved into weddings where I noticed more of an impact of my work. I was at many weddings and noticed how amazing it was that one individual could influence another on their big day. This influence inspired me to pursue my hair and makeup artistry career. Instead of making one-moment special, I was compelled to recreate this feeling, not only for someone’s special day but, for every day and for everyone.

I started as an assistant where I learned from multiple talented women. I worked two jobs up to 18 hours a day until I eventually moved to another few salons. Once I grew, my clientele made my business thrive, I was able to get a studio of my own, leaving the second job behind. I love the journey I took to get to where I am. All the ups and downs have done nothing but help me grow into the artist and person I am today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was not the smoothest road to get to where I am today. Working multiple jobs from while building my career meant hours on my feet and little sleep. I also dealt with a lot of competition while building my clientele and business. While competition is great and helpful there was a lot of pettiness. I advice other women to turn your head the other way against the silly drama that comes with building your own business. It is always better to rise above and show success rather than getting involved. Along the way of growing in this business, I heard someone else say women who empower women will always succeed. When I heard this it changed my outlook completely in the industry of my own. I let go of the competition and decided to learn from others! If you have a positive outlook, as hard as it might be at times, it will be a happier life.

We’d love to hear more about Lyndsey Winters Beauty.
Today, my passion runs as deep as the day I started and continues to grow. Constantly educating myself and consistently adding to my credentials within the industry. My expertise and certifications include: balayage, color melting, extensions, cutting, keratin complex smoothing treatments, as well as special event hair and makeup.

I think having the studio and having more of a one on one experience with my clients sets me apart. I have so much fun with each and every client every time we have an appointment. I also love to braid and curly hair, so I often end the appointment with a fun style for the client to enjoy.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I am a firm believer that how you grew up and all the experiences will play roles in your adult life. Growing up I was always involved in sports from karate to water-polo. I learned discipline and commitment from these sports. These two traits are so important in the business and success I have gained. I have two sisters that got to enjoy me playing with their hair and doing their makeup on growing up. My little sister especially got the pleasure of constantly having to be my personal barbie doll that I could dress up and makeup. Both my parents have gone outside the box with their careers and I think I learned a lot from seeing that while growing up. Success comes in different forms and I am thankful I was able to see both sides of owning your own business or paving your own path in a career.
