Meet Trailblazer Malia Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malia Williams.

Malia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 22-year-old entrepreneur. Currently, I am finishing up school for my BS in Business Marketing as I already have three business-related Associate degrees. I have always been interested in fashion and beauty so for my senior project in high school. I had a fashion show. I thrifted and reworked the clothing and after that show, I knew fashion was certainly a passion of mine. I started my first brand right after graduating from high school. My brand consisted of a lot of printing and logos on clothing items, but I yearned for more originality. In 2017 I decided I wanted to design and make my own clothes so I taught myself how to sew. I’ve handmade many collections and it feels amazing seeing other people in my designs. I try to push myself to try anything I’m interested in pursuing so about halfway through 2019, I began learning to do nails. I have progressed so much just in a few months. Once I am finished with my marketing degree, I plan to go to cosmetology school and become a licensed nail tech. I love both so much and look forward to becoming better at what I do each day.

Has it been a smooth road?
Through experiencing both college and entrepreneurship, the road has never been smooth. There are always good and bad times. Many people look at owning their own business and entrepreneurship as an easy thing because you’re your own boss, but it takes a lot more work. There are periods where the money is flowing and others when you don’t make any at all. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. You have to have the will power to push forward even when business isn’t boomin’. But when you’re passionate about what you do, you’ll always find a way to pull through. Never give up on your dreams.

We’d love to hear more about De La Crème.
As a designer, I make all of my clothing collections which are sold on my site at www.delacremeco.com. I also make lip glosses and I’m currently working on lip care bundles! My site provides clothing, beauty products, and jewelry for women who dare to stand out. I do freestyle acrylic nails sets which are sure to catch the eye. I am most proud of my brand and the products and services I provide because they are specially made by me and I had to learn how to do all these things on my own. I’ve had to teach myself many things and make many mistakes, but it’s gotten me to where I am today. You can find all my pages on Instagram @maliadenise @delacreme.co @theanailator_

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Focus on your own journey and don’t compare yourself to others. These days it’s easy to get caught up in other people’s success or what seems to be success. Don’t be afraid to go into an industry because you feel like that’s what everyone is doing if you’re passionate about it then go for it because it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it differently. Stay true to yourself and allow yourself to stand out. You don’t always have to have it all together, just START.
