Meet Trailblazer Marshauna McGlothin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marshauna McGlothin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marshauna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For over four years, I’ve been helping family, friends and acquaintances with prepping them with the necessities needed to succeed in their everyday life. From career development and building their resumes to learning how to meditate and have another outlook on life. It all started as just doing mini task and favors whenever someone had a job interview or was job hunting. It can be overwhelming and to give them that push and support is something I personally enjoy because I didn’t know nor have access to most of the information I do now. To share what I know gives them a sense of relief because I can recall the days of not knowing where to start and it would give me a headache I would procrastinate. But having an understanding of the steps and process has got me through it and I’m able to share it with others. My goal is to help everyone reach the full potential and for them to keep going no matter what setback they come across.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to reaching my goal in helping people with my life coach business hasn’t been smooth. Fall 2014, I worked retail full time and went to a community college full time. My major was journalism then I switched it spring 2017 to communications. During that time, I also took business management classes and got a certificate for them. The journey is still in progress. There’s good times and there’s bad times that make it worth it. One of my main struggles was adjusting to using social media as it’s one of the main tools used for businesses today. Although I’m young, I’m used to a private life and with following my dream of helping people, I had to put that aside and learn to adapt to using different tools. The main advice I can give to anyone starting their journey in accomplishing their dream is to not give up. Nothing happens overnight, but manifesting and focusing on the end goal will help you get through it. There’s so much to learn as long as you’re doing this for the right reasons. The journey will definitely be emotional but worth it and fun. Never be afraid to invest in your craft even if it’s $1. There’s a lot of resources out there to jump-start your vision.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Your Vintage Life Coach – what should we know?
Earlier this year (2019), I decided to create a life coach business where I help people with resume building and finding jobs. I also do other things such as college prep. With college prep, I mainly research scholarships and applications people can apply for. The main thing I’m proud of is doing something I enjoy. The main thing that sets me apart as a life coach is my business is more for younger people who are just starting their life. I know not a lot of young people know where to go or even where to start. Life can take people by surprise when they’re not sure what to do when beginning a new chapter, especially when it comes to looking for a job and or college.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to networking, it can be hard at first because you don’t know where to start but with researching and interacting with people around you there’s so much information to come across. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and the best thing that has worked for me is my colleagues, whether you meet them at work school or even during a public outing. Also emailing and reaching out to different sources and people. Even if one person doesn’t respond, don’t feel discouraged there’s a lot of people with similar goals out there and social media plays a key role as well as other apps. For me, yelp has even helped I received emails about different professional sites to use and sign up for.
