Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Denny.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve wanted to go to Beauty School since I was in high school! I got my license in 2007 and went straight to booth rent. I started with friends and family and built my clientele on referrals only. In 2013, I became an Educator/Global Platform Artist for Brazilian Blowout. In 2016 I decided to go fully independent and open a studio at Sola Salons. I further my education on a regular basis and love to learn and continue grow.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve always felt that this industry is full of talented and amazing artists! But I also think that you can only be as successful as the hard work you put in to achieve it. My advice for anyone starting their journey would be to stay hustling!!! Put in the work. Practice your craft and showcase your creativity.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in long hair, balayage hair painting and blowouts. Bringing luster to long hair and making it beautiful is so gratifying to me! I also love to teach my clients how to take care of their hair and how to style it at home!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My Grandmother taught me unconditional love. My Mother who has taught me hard work. And my older Sisters, who have taught me balance between career and family.
