Meet Trailblazer Melissa Jacome

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Jacome.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Napa Valley, CA but raised in Tijuana, Mexico. I’m a girl that crosses the border most days of the week to go to school. My major is Graphic design and Marketing. I love art, fashion, traveling and most of all being with the people I love. I’ve always been passionate about fashion and traveling but I never had the time and energy to create content for my Instagram page. I’ve been doing this for 6 months and it has been an amazing experience. I started this blog to inspire other women and let them know that they don’t have to spend a fortune to look amazing. It’s all about personal style and getting creative. I also love to travel so I combined two of my passions in a great way.

Starting this journey, I’ve gotten to meet great people in the business and taken into consideration their tips and tricks. Also, the social media world keeps changing and evolving and I’ve had to adjust a few times to the way it works. It has been hard a har ride but as long as it keeps being fun for me, I’ll continue to pursue my dream.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, especially with bots roaming around Instagram. Sometimes, I would get discouraged because other people start growing in an instant and I did not understand what were they doing that I wasn’t. I’ve stayed true to growing my followers and likes organically but It’s been a tough road because growth has been hard with the Instagram algorithms. Just work on at least posting 3-4 times a week and commenting on other peoples posts as well. It helps you and It helps them. Be supportive of your fellow bloggers, they are not competition, everyone has different things they can offer!

So, honestly, my advice is this: do whatever YOU want to do. Everyone can judge and even your friends can be a little rough around the edges too. Do not get discouraged. Once they see you are doing amazing things and perhaps collaborations, they will come around and start supporting you. Just keep doing what you love and post the pictures YOU love. Be original and keep the same vibe with all your photos. (I use the exact same filter for each and every one of my posts) It keeps your feed pretty and harmonizing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Meljacome – what should we know?
I’m a style and travel blogger. My personal brand offers my followers insights of places and fashion posts. I hope I inspire them to travel and to know what type of clothing to wear on a trip. It’s very frustrating not knowing what to take to certain places because you’ve never been there. I love to answer questions about that also. I’ve worked hard on my feed as well. I like how it looks and I think it sets me apart from everyone else. I also think I’m very accessible. The difference between big bloggers with a lot of followers is that they don’t engage with their followers as much as they would like to. I love commenting and giving feedback to whoever asks me anything. If I can make their lives easier, I’m all in.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes. I tried blogging about fashion a few years from now, as a side project and basically just for me, for practice. But I got a made fun of for trying. I got super discouraged and I stopped completely because I felt very insecure about it. Friends usually don’t mean to hurt our feeling sometimes, but if they don’t understand what we are doing, they can make you feel insecure. This year I had a little time on my hands and I decided that experience should not define me. 4 years later I started posting and more and more people liked my content. Some of my friends have made fun of what I do but now, I honestly don’t care. I’ve literally had to tell a friend: If you don’t like what I’m posting, just unfollow me. I’m doing this for me and it makes me happy.
