Meet Trailblazer Nicole Cunningham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Cunningham.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Wine Blogger & Owner of Adorb Designs- A Creative Studio specializing in Design, Content Creation, and Social Media Management for Small Businesses.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts and Animation in 2011. Since then, I got married and started a family and continued to work within my industry. After I had my first daughter at the end of 2013, I struggled to commute to LA every day and that is when I started designing on the side in hopes of starting my own business one day. I found a job closer to home in a marketing department as a designer and marketing assistant where I stayed for almost three years. My experience from that position landed me a job at one of the largest Wineries in Temecula Wine Country as a Digital Media Specialist. After a year of working there, my response on Social Media from my photography, design, and videography was incredible, and that is when I realized I had found my niche. Flash forward to the 4th quarter of 2018, I am pushing forward with Adorb Designs helping small businesses thrive and connect with their consumers through Social Media Management as well as continuing my Wine Adventures and sharing my experiences along the way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a long road as I basically started designing on the side back in 2013. Juggling a full-Time job, being a wife and a mom to my girls had been my priority and trying to stay up late and focus on my side work was always a challenge. However, you have to do it if you want to succeed. Work when your kids are napping during the day or if you are a morning person, get up an hour or two before work or before your kids’ wake and work on a few things. Without the hustle, there is no reward. I used to struggle a lot with putting myself out there and getting turned down from companies but I have made a promise that I would no longer allow myself to shut down or beat myself up over it. No has a new meaning for me… it no longer flat out means no, it means not right now. That really helps keep that motivation. I also feel that my Instagram friends keep me going. The encouragement and engagement with them let me know that I do have something amazing to offer. Yoga also helps. It is my time to just shut off from everything and the practices of each class always relate back to a challenge I am having and it gives me a better perspective.

My family is also a huge supporter as sometimes, I need a few hours on a weekend to knock something out for a client. Anyone that has kids can relate to that motivation to provide as much as you can for your kids. Being that I have all girls, I want them to see what a hard and successful worker I am and that they become strong independent women. The best advice I can give is to enjoy every step of your journey. I am the type of person that likes to get stuff done right now and have control of everything. This journey has taught me to have patience and enjoy every struggle because when you succeed, the reward is that much sweeter and you will be glad that you didn’t give up on yourself.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Adorb Designs – what should we know?
Adorb Designs is a Creative Studio specializing in Design, Content Creation (photography and videography), and Social Media Management (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) for Small Businesses.

With my background in animation and design and my love and understanding of social media, I feel that I offer the perfect combination where most companies have one or the other.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I have always been a firm believer that women can do anything they set their mind to. I was raised that way by my mom. I feel like we live in a world now, more than ever, where women and men are equal and it’s time for us to bring it.
