Meet Trailblazer Nita Cintron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nita Cintron.

Nita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For years and as a hobby, I planned unique and unforgettable trips and events for family and friends. However, it was not until planning my daughter’s wedding, in 2012, in Coronado, California, that I completely fell in love with event planning.

I planned my daughter’s entire wedding and on the day of, I had four on-site planners execute my vision. They nailed it; the wedding was a total success and the question of the night was, “Who planned this amazing wedding?”.

After my daughter’s wedding, I was constantly approached by people telling me, “You should start a wedding planning business.” I heard it so much that at times, I would cringe. I was seventeen years into my professional career and by no means was I looking to take on any additional work or change jobs. I told myself that I was content doing favors for family and friends because I was doing it at my leisure and with no real obligation.

Although I dismissed the idea of starting my own business, it was always lingering in the back of my head and I was always curious about this endeavor. As I continued to do more travel and event favors, including planning my own destination milestone birthday party in Belize to include eighteen friends from all over the country, I started to realize that I had a special niche for what I was doing. This led to researching and educating myself on ways to start an event planning business. In addition, to enhance my knowledge, I took several meeting and event planning courses at San Diego State College of Extended Studies.

I was fully immersed in my classes and small business startup research. One day I was doing research for a homework assignment, at one of San Diego’s unique event venue’s, when I was asked if I would be interested in working part-time there. The venue had an employee suddenly resign and I merely walked through the door. I wasn’t there looking for a job and again, I already had a job. It took me some time, but I came to realize all of the knowledge I would gain by accepting the position… so I said yes. I now freelance on weekends and sometimes during the week, after my “real” job. It is a lot of work, but what I am learning is invaluable. Talk about being at the right place, at the right time!

After understanding what the requirements were, taking classes and working as a freelancer, I was ready. I was ready to start my business because I felt it in my soul. Although I still have my “real” job, in 2018, I launched my “dream” job, It’s in the Details Travel and Events by Nita Cintron. Think of it as a fusion of travel and event services. I have always been a planner and fascinated with all the little details that go into working on a project and seeing it come together. I am extremely fortunate to be able to do what I love, and it is never a doubt in my mind that it really is…in the details.

Has it been a smooth road?
Prior to learning more about the business and welcoming all the possibilities, I was afraid of the unknown, and we all tend to be afraid of the unknown. Fear is a monster. It can stop you in your tracks. However, there is something truly magical about knowledge. Knowledge is power and it’s a beast. I had to learn that there is no shame in admitting I am a beginner and to not be intimidated by things I don’t know. I just kept telling myself, I am a beginner, do the best I can, always learn and strive to be excellent.

We’d love to hear more about It’s in the Details Travel and Events.
I think this review says it all…

For anyone that is looking for help planning your next event or trip look no further. A few years back I connected with Nita Cintron to help her plan a Mardi Gras themed wedding and she was amazing to work with. Very well organized and sent me photos to help coordinate idea on color theme for a wedding cake and she brought these great Mardi Gras masks for everyone and had lots of fun tropical ideas. Since the wedding was taking place in Costa Rica, we had to blend a little tropical into the theme of Mardi Gras and she did that beautifully. She thought of every detail and we even planned a fun group trip into the true rain forest to see some waterfalls. Everyone had a fabulous time and I loved working with Nita and seeing her vision come to life once everyone arrived. It was a fabulous wedding vacation week.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
My opinion, women are natural leaders and are more powerful than we often give ourselves credit for.
