Meet Trailblazer Reyes Baca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyes Baca.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Reyes, but I prefer “Rey.” I am a Southern California native, hailing from Riverside. I migrated to Orange County for college and have found a new home here. Constantly on-the-go, I love visiting new and cute restaurants, pop-ups, lounges, etc. I often venture to Los Angeles for activities as well. I do pretty extensive research for my weekend outings and since I can’t go to EVERY event, I’d at least like to share my finds with others. I was encouraged to start a blog and social media page detailing events in the surrounding areas, and have had a blast doing it!

Along with attending events, I am also a Marketing Associate at Hope International University, and manage to freelance write as well as manage a few small business’ social media accounts. I will graduate in December 2019 with an MBA with an emphasis in Marketing Management. So, here’s to living my passion and getting “work experience” while doing so!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I haven’t always been sure about what I wanted to be “when I grow up” but through trial and experimenting with different tasks I have found a love for marketing and branding. Now, with that said, marketing is a huge arena with plenty of paths to venture into and I am still discovering what my niche is. Taking time to reflect and even ask others what they view as your strengths can provide great insight into talents that you didn’t even realize you had. Getting to know yourself is the best way to begin to develop your path to success.

Please tell us about Exploreytion: Things to Do in LA & OC – what should we know?
I have serious FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Even after I deleted my social media accounts, circa 2015, that didn’t stop me from going to Insta-worthy spots and taking cute pics. After encouragement from friends and family, I am back on social but this time to share my “event-researching skills” with YOU!

Here’s a little back story — I initially deleted my social media accounts to retreat from acquaintances and strangers who felt they should be informed about my personal life. ⁣⁣⁣My feelings about my absence from social then shifted towards more of a protest to be “different” and simply live in the moment. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
And now, here I am, reestablishing my internet presence as @exploREYtion! ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I still feel that my earlier feelings linger about social media but have now come to realize that there can be a lot of GOOD that comes from being connected to others online – finding community, sharing opinions, empowering one another, advocacy – things I hope to do with my social media connections. ⁣⁣⁣

With my blog and Instagram account, I plan to share weekly events as well as long-standing favorites of both the Los Angeles and Orange counties.

My weekend, and sometimes weekday activities, involve going to new restaurants, pop-up museums, cafes, generally Insta-worthy spots. You’ll see, and hopefully, you’ll partake in some of the events I share!

Think of me as your anti-boredom guide!

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I stay up-to-date on all things Instagram through the “Later” blog. (https://later.com/) Their articles provide beginner-friendly insight to make your account the best it can be by sharing insider tips and how-to guides. I use an array of apps to curate my content but I would have to say my top three are – Preview (to ‘preview’ my Instagram feed), Unfold (for professional-looking Instagram Stories templates), and PicsArt (for photo editing).
