Today we’d like to introduce you to Sepi Monahemi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sepi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a product of the American dream. My family and I moved to the United States for a better life. My early childhood consisted of moving a lot. I lived in seven countries before the age of nine. Finally, the United States was our last destination. I can honestly say for those of us who are privileged enough to live in the U.S it is important to take advantage of the possibilities and not take anything for granted. We live in a country where we can do anything.
I initially went to college to pursue a career in physical therapy. Met my husband got married and started a family where I was a stay home mom. I always had it in my head to go back to school and get my degree but was overwhelmed with the amount of work it would require. So, I decided to go into real estate where I thought it would be easier and I could make my own hours. The problem with that was I didn’t enjoy it at all. It truly was not my calling. Until one day, a pamphlet came in the mail from a college and I knew right then and there that I had to go back. As I looked through the pamphlet, I saw an interior design program and it was as if a light went on inside me.
I got my degree and started working immediately. Things took off from there, one job led to another and another. My work had depended a lot on recommendations and word of mouth.
I am truly blessed for having a beautiful family and a successful business. I could not have done it all without the encouragement and support of my family.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life is a journey and there are always bumps in the road. Nothing comes easy. Focus hard work and determination will set you apart from everyone else. Believing in yourself and having a positive attitude along the way helps. It was difficult for me to find balance in my life. I’m a wife and mother of three. Going back to school in my late 20’s managing a family and dealing with everyday issues was hard. What got me through it were my own expectations for myself. I wanted more from life. I love my family and will always put them above all else. Although, I needed to do this for myself and prove to myself that it is possible having a family and a career.
My advice for young women starting your journey or already on your journey is don’t quit. Stay focused and keep your eye on the goal you set for yourself. Don’t settle for less and do what makes you happy. No one deserves it more than you.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Inspirational Design – what should we know?
I’m a luxury interior designer. My specialty is residential interior design specifically new construction. I’m one of those people that can honestly say I love what I do. Although most people like what they do for a living its different to love what you do. I wake up every morning and I’m happy to go to work because it doesn’t feel like work. Bringing my ideas to life is one of my passions. What sets me apart from others is my drive, my creativity, and my determination. I’m focused on making my clients happy. I’m proud of all my accomplishments. I set the bar high and I’m not afraid to face the challenges. In fact, that’s what keeps me from getting bored. I’m known for my hard work, extra attention to detail, transparency with my clients and a positive attitude.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I’ve never been a fan of social media until Instagram. I opened my IG page back in 2012. I found it to be an excellent platform for anyone wanting to share anything. As a designer, I post my work, get motivation and keep up with trends. I spend a few minutes a few times a day scrolling through the posts watching some stories and feeling connected to friends/family I don’t get to talk to or see as often as I’d like.
