Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Mason.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a 21-year-old musician born and raised in San Diego, CA. I first started playing guitar at eight years old when my father bought me my first left-handed guitar. Starting out I would try to emulate my idol, Bob Dylan. I am also influenced by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Paul Simon, and Stevie Wonder among many others. I always looked at music as being timeless from a young age, not caring when it was recorded.
Please tell us about your art.
I am first a singer/songwriter. But I also play guitar, piano, drums, and bass. I create music of many different genres such as rock, r&b, folk, pop, and indie/alternative. Whether or not people like my music, I would hope they respect it as being authentic and original.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I’m still looking for advice myself! But if I were to give advice to other artists, I would say to focus on your craft, but don’t forget that you have to get your art out there somehow! What is great art if no one ever sees or hears it? I find that I have spent years on my craft and chops, but I haven’t spent as much time on the business side of music. So that is what I wish I focused on when I was younger.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I perform weekly at open mics around San Diego such as Lestat’s West, Public square, and cafe 1134. When I’m not doing that, I also play monthly shows all around San Diego. I post all the details to my events on Instagram and Facebook @travismasonofficial. I also released a single in October called Beautiful Sight to See which is on all streaming platforms! Along with a music video which is on my YouTube channel: Travis Mason Official.
