Today we’d like to introduce you to Uzoma Albert.
Uzoma, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From a young age, I’ve always been artsy. As an adult, I wanted to find a way to find a way to apply this artistic drive which I’ve always had, while earning a living and helping people. Graphic design, which I studied in college at Indiana University was the outlet that I found.
With regards to design, my favorite thing to do has always been to design logos. Prior to most of the amazing tools we have today as designers, friends would either ask me to do a painting for them or help them with a logo. That got me thinking I could really start a business for myself. To be honest, I love creating or coordinating things as well. I’ve dabbled in attempting to shoot an independent movie (I took on a bit much than I could handle, with that regard), being a soccer coach, writing songs etc. All of this was taking place in Fort Wayne, Indiana where I live prior to moving here to San Diego, California.
My quest to learn also took me down the route of learning website design. In my final year of college, 2013. A soccer buddy introduced me to first serious paying client, whom I designed a website worth 2k in 2012. That really got me fired up. I decided that I could really combine Graphic and web design to help people while expressing my own ideas. Design is all around us. So, how could I not be inspired? On the business side of thing and picking up marketing. It was a lot of reading, watching videos and trial and errors. It is especially fun. Business-wise, I am still on a journey to become better at what I do and to scale even further.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. The fun is in the challenge of adding to already existing skills and sitting across from a client who trusts you with their dreams/visions and counts on you to bring into existence. The hard part is getting your next client and just finding a way to be consistent when you have so many competitors out there. Having to constantly stay updated and learning things too is part of the hard part as well.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
My proudest moment is seeing a logo that I designed on a gas station store front. It’s a really proud feeling seeing your work out there. Yes, I designed the logo for Eddie’s Quick Mart, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They’ve since become very established.
