Meet Veronica Carr of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Carr.

Veronica Carr

Hi Veronica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Veronica! I grew up on California’s Central Coast, where I spent my time enjoying the beaches and hills of Santa Barbara County. The natural beauty of my surroundings greatly influenced my design aesthetic and passion for event planning. Inspired by California’s stunning landscapes, I moved down the coast to San Diego to attend University and begin my career in hospitality. While working in the hospitality industry, I laid the foundation for what would become Type A Soiree. I gained invaluable experience working with top rental and event planning companies throughout the area, and managing events at the prestigious Del Mar Racetrack. These experiences helped me cultivate my expertise in event production, vendor collaboration, and luxury event styling.
In 2013, I launched Type A Soiree, and since then, we have continually evolved to meet our clients’ needs and adapt to the ever-changing social landscape. For nearly two decades, I have explored and worked within San Diego’s event industry, curating a network of the finest venues and vendors to ensure unforgettable experiences for our clients. In addition to our expertise in wedding and event planning, Type A Soiree specializes in destination events, embracing the adventure and excitement that comes with planning in new locations. Most recently we have been assisting business owners, and entrepreneurs with creating a stable foundation for their future, with life insurance and investments. We began to understand what a lack of future planning there was for entrepreneurs, and wanted to help educate and set them up for success. In 2023 we decided to become CE certified for life insurance.
As we continue to evolve and create unforgettable moments, we hope you will reach out to us for your next milestone!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—any seasoned entrepreneur will tell you that! The wedding and events industry is fast-paced, demanding, and deeply personal, which means you’re constantly balancing client expectations, vendor relationships, and the unpredictability of live events.

Some of the biggest struggles along the way included:

Breaking into the Luxury Market: Establishing credibility in high-end events takes years of networking, delivering exceptional service, and building a strong portfolio.
Entrepreneurial Growing Pains: Managing cash flow, scaling the business, and handling the operational side of things (taxes, contracts, hiring, etc.) was a steep learning curve.
The COVID-19 Crisis: The pandemic was devastating for the industry—postponements, cancellations, and navigating new health guidelines. Surviving that period required resilience, innovation, and a strong client focus.
High Cost of Business: Operating in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. means higher overhead costs, tough competition, and the constant challenge of staying profitable while maintaining top-tier service.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a luxury wedding and event planner in San Diego, I specialize in creating high-end, highly personalized events that reflect my clients’ unique love stories and visions. My company is known for its impeccable attention to detail, seamless execution, and the ability to bring sophisticated, breathtaking events to life. From lavish coastal weddings to elegant black-tie galas, I ensure that every event is an unforgettable experience.

What sets me apart is my deep commitment to client relationships, my ability to remain calm under pressure, and my network of top-tier vendors who share my dedication to excellence. I don’t just plan events—I craft experiences that feel effortless and magical while managing all the behind-the-scenes complexities.

I am most proud of the reputation I’ve built over the past 12 years, navigating challenges like COVID and the high costs of doing business in San Diego while continuing to deliver exceptional events. Seeing my clients’ joy and knowing I’ve played a role in creating some of the most important moments of their lives is what drives me every day.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Absolutely! Planning a luxury wedding or event is an investment—not just financially, but emotionally. My goal is to make the process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for my clients, allowing them to be present and fully immersed in their celebration.

For couples planning their weddings, my biggest advice is to focus on what truly matters to you. There are a lot of misrepresentations out there of cost, and expectations. Hire a professional planner, with a proven track record! Trends will come and go, but the moments, emotions, and memories you create will last forever. You don’t get a redo on your wedding, nonprofit event, or corporate event that can set the tone for the future. Work with a planner who understands your vision, values your time, and can bring a sense of calm to the process.

For those dreaming of entering the event industry, know that it’s a demanding but incredibly fulfilling career. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with passion, resilience, and a commitment to excellence, you can build something truly extraordinary.

And finally, I’m grateful for every client, vendor, and industry partner who has trusted me and my team over the years. Creating unforgettable experiences is my passion, and I look forward to continuing to bring dream events to life for years to come!
