Meet Vicky Phu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Phu.

Hi Vicky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Who doesn’t love food?

I’ve always had a passion for exploring new food and finding hidden gems! When it comes to food, there isn’t necessarily anything that I dislike. I’m extremely open to trying new things!

In 2016, I decided to create an Instagram account dedicating that page to a personal portfolio of all the foods that I’ve tried. I enjoyed Yelping and supporting small businesses in my city. And recommending foods to friends and family was also something that I was proud of offering because I enjoyed doing so! Since my Instagram was meant to be my personal portfolio, I also used this page as a convenient guide whenever I’m being indecisive about what to eat! A few years passed, and I discovered that there is a food community with thousands of members across the globe who also shared a common interest – FOOD. It’s fascinating being able to see everyone else’s new finds or “hole-in-the-wall” restaurants in their city, state, or country. On November 20th, 2020, I introduced myself to my page, and to my surprise; I received a lot of love from the community. I started posting more every day, interacted with other foodies, and made new friends along the journey. My page grew drastically. Turns out people love my aesthetic too! I hope to continue this passion for a lifetime. @phuoodwithvicks is known for its bright and colorful photos that make you hungry when you stumble upon a post. I enjoy sharing secret menu hacks with my followers too (who doesn’t love that). And if you ever hang out with me, be aware that I have a rule: CAMERA EATS FIRST.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! For four years, I continued to post my food experiences but never received any love back. I worked hard on my photos, and I eventually doubted my skills. It’s been a dream to be a known food blogger! Though my Instagram started off as a personal portfolio, I wanted my efforts to be appreciated. I found my way through those obstacles and I can now safely say I’ve never been happier. My love for food and the aesthetics of my photos have come a long way. I won’t stop here!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Aside from being a food blogger, I am also a nursing student aspiring to become an aesthetic nurse injector. I currently work for a board-certified plastic surgeon located in the bay area!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The backbone of this incredible growth and journey has been the endless support that I’ve received from my closest friends. However, the one person that I can’t thank enough would have to be my boyfriend. He’s been supportive of my passion since the day I started. In all honesty, Randy has been my incredible support system throughout this journey, even when times were tough. He pushed me to strive and continue creating what I love. He’s always proactive and engaging throughout this growth. I wouldn’t have grown this much as a creator without him!
