Being a 30 year breast cancer survivor I found the need to develop skincare that offers challenged skin, caused by DNA changes resulting from illness and medication, real benefits that can help skin thrive again. After selling my previous company I learned the important need to have this type of skincare available to help others. Those with sensitive skin, burned skin or traumatized skin can benefit from the trade secret ingredients in this line of organic products.
I developed a new skincare category- DermaSeaticals. Organic skincare that focuses on the healing benefits from sea plants on the skin.
The focus was to use healing seaweeds, plant stem cells and plant peptides in a delivery system that the skin could absorb. The levels of hydration were tested and evaluated using VISIA technology. Most skincare increases skin hydration up to 100% after application. The benefit of our skincare line is that this hydration remains in the skin up to 12 hours after application and benefits can be felt and seen immediately.
We are not on a mission to conquer wrinkles, etc. Our goal was to bring valuable ingredients into the skin to help it thrive, become more resilient against damaging factors such as UVA?UVB and Blue Light radiation and those chemical changes that occur in our bodies. The outcome has been an overwhelming success. The skin is healthier looking, smoother, and hyperpigmentation is diminished.
The trade secret ingredients such as our Biogenic Seaweed Antioxidant Broth, the main ingredient of 99% of our formulas are used in place of purified water. This alone is a game changer in cosmetic chemistry since 98% of skincare products are primarily water. The Alginiacin Hyaluronate ingredient offers high levels of fucoidan, minerals and our trade secret botanical Hyaluronic Acid amino acid delivery system that targets the weaker cells to help strengthen them again.
Sea Active DermaSeatical skincare products do not contain any controversial chemicals such as formaldehyde releasing chemicals, parabens, sulfates, ethanolamines, perfumes (we use essential oils for aromatherapy), dyes or Butylene Glycol.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
SO many challenges. How do you compete against big pharma? After selling my previous skincare corporation I thought I was crazy to start this new company again. Ramping up again financially to develop trade secret ingredients unique to these products was not easy. After five years, the company is taking off. Patience and tenacious work to reach out to people and let them tell their stories has increased our customer base by 50%. Those customers who had been using my prior skincare products had remained dedicated to my formulas and continued to follow me. That has been a real blessing.
We are not expanding our business to work with wellness center partners who are bringing the product line into their business to offer their clients. They are giving organic facials with our product line and using the products we offer for various peels to benefit their client’s skin. Wellness is our focus and as a result, beauty often exudes from confidence within each person. This is an amazing experience to witness and one that has kept me going in my research and development.
Nothing good comes easy and the uphill battle has been worth this journey. Helping one person at a time is all we can do, but trying, that takes courage. I didn’t realize that I had this kind of courage. The support of my family and friends has made all the difference for me, as has my faith.
Please tell us about your business.
I am a patented skincare inventor that uses organic cosmetic chemistry from a different angle than most cosmetic chemists. I look for ingredients everywhere. The ocean, especially. That research has led me to work with seaweed farmers in the USA and around the world. The seaweed world is fascinating and bringing those benefits to the skin using unique delivery systems has been challenging but very exciting. I took a business from its infant stages and groomed it for success based on creating formulas that offer unique benefits to a niche market.
Men and women like me who have seen a change in the way their skin behaves after having chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation or taking medications for other reasons. Once this cellular DNA has been changed the skin needs special attention and formulas that can bring life back to the cells. I call this a reblooming of the skin.
DermaSeaticals is our trademark skincare category. We are using sea plants to accomplish most of the work but they are enhanced with essential oils, tropical butter and plant based ceramides to deliver benefits to the skin.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting letters from people that have purchased the products, whom I have never met that tell me how the products have changed their outlook on their appearance and life. Who would have thought? Some of these people have become role models for me. They inspire me to continue doing what I do.
When someone has ravaged skin caused by radiation and they are suffering despite their radiation oncologists suggesting various treatments, and they reach out to us in desperation, calling me or writing me to let me know that they found relief with our QuinteSEAential Balm I am over the moon.
Those whose skin has aged because of their illness or medications that have given up on their appearance finally found us. After they use the products they feel the difference and they see the difference. It gives them confidence again and their self-esteem helps the healing process. This is why I am doing what I do. Offering others hope, most genuinely.
