Meet Vlada Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vlada Lopez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been drawing and doodling since I was a child. I used to watch my mom draw out faces and bodies in different poses. I would beg her to draw for me because I was fascinated with the way a pen and paper can turn into a picture of a person or an animal and it could be recognizable. I would attempt to repeat her creations. It was a game we played.

As I got older, drawing was something I did to soothe my nerves during my free time. In college, my notebook was filled with small sketches. Though I was not an excellent student, I did have the most creative notes that gave me ideas for future paintings. I was always doodling in class. When I graduated, I took my first class in art at a local community college, entered a few student art shows, and was featured at a local art gallery. This gave me confidence to pursue art professionally and create a small business, Spark Bliss Co. Today I am working on expanding my social media and joining more art communities in San Diego.

Please tell us about your art.
My artwork is nature-inspired portraits of people and animals. It is personalized to the person it is meant for, therefore I always ask many questions before I begin a piece. I paint in watercolor and acrylics. Both mediums create a different mood. One is transcendent and ethereal; the other is very vibrant and textured. I enjoy creating artwork that capture memories that can be passed on to family members and cherished for a lifetime.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is when you get to do what sparks your bliss. (Pun intended) I have been on this path to success for a few years. I am very persistent in making this my life every day. You have to be passionate about your work and be a bit of a go-getter. Learn other skills besides art technique like marketing, small business management, finance and budgeting. I constantly learn and read about how to be successful as an artist, entrepreneur, and a whole person in general. You have to have confidence in your abilities to do the best job for the people who support your art and for yourself.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find me on social media accounts under Spark Bliss Co., contact me directly through Instagram and Facebook if you want to order a special gift or want something personal for yourself. I am usually participating at La Bodega gallery art shows throughout the year and plan on joining a few artist communities and San Diego events.
