Meet Wesley Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Jones.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
At a young age, my parents put me in a few after-school art programs and really loved sculpting and drawing I loved creating little monsters and things with teeth and claws. I fell out of art for a while after that, until I was 19. At the time I was floating didn’t want to go to college, nothing really interested me. So I took a trip to Massachusetts to visit family and get out of the area for a little while. I started drawing and painting while also working at a deli. It felt right. I decided to head to art school to get better at it getting a degree in illustration.

Please tell us about your art.
I make graphic high contrast paintings of figures, animals, and monsters. I use a few different techniques, Combining acrylic paint, Ink, Pastels. I also work digitally in photoshop or illustrator. I really try to capture and personify internal conflicts in their many forms, Trying to put my viewer on the precipice of control and chaos. I guess that would be how I’d explain it. Put simply, I love action and movement, And I try to create a lot of it in my artwork.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Art is always created from some sort of inspiration, a reaction to something. An artist is skilled at taking a melody of abstract and contradictory concepts and make them work in harmony. It speaks to the human spirit.
