Meet William Shewfelt

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Shewfelt.

William, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2013, I left my hometown of Modesto to go to UC San Diego. For the first two years of my college experience, I was focused on an Economics degree. At the time, economics and its effect on foreign policy and wealth distribution interested me greatly–so it seemed like a natural fit.

However, my last year of college, I made a radical decision. I had gradually become dissatisfied with my career options and I felt like my life wasn’t heading in the direction I had always envisioned. So I began to think, “What would my perfect life look like if I could do anything?”

I realized that I was very passionate about acting and entertainment – I had been since I was a kid, but I never actually had the guts to pursue it. It seemed risky, difficult, and scary. That last year of college, I cut off all safety nets and Plan B’s and single-mindedly pursued an acting career.

My goal was to book the starring role on a major TV series within one year. The only problem? I had never acted a day in my life, and I had no money.

Regardless, I was committed. I was up at 4am every morning and I worked hard every single day–no weekends. I took acting classes, got myself into shape, did headshots, pitched agents, managers, casting directors, created a website, went to countless auditions–I did everything that I could to accomplish this goal.

By the year of the year, the results were astounding. I had acted in numerous short films, plays, commercials, music videos. I starred in my first independent feature film, and before the year was up, I had booked the lead role in the long-running Power Rangers TV series as Brody the Red Ranger.

After filming two seasons of Power Rangers in New Zealand, I came back to the States and began building my online presence. I created an online fitness coaching business, the Will to Win podcast, built my YouTube, Instagram, I published two books, and I continued acting in films.

The journey over the past four years has been incredible. I learned many lessons, but the important one is that when you are truly passionate about something, you should pursue it. If the path is hazy or doesn’t exist, that’s no excuse. If you can’t find a way, make a way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been numerous struggles along the way, but that’s all been a part of the experience of growing stronger. Obstacles have included learning how to act, generating multiple sources of income, creating a business, writing books–everything I do is a new learning experience.

But the only true battle is simply one of work ethic. If you can learn how to get things done every single day towards your goals, there are no real obstacles.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
In the acting industry, I am best known for playing young action-adventure heroes. By combining my acting skills with my athletic abilities, I’ve been able to build a career as an actor in TV and film.

In the business world, I run an online health coaching platform. We’re best known for helping people lose weight with the Carnivore Diet.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very energetic and I enjoyed making people laugh. I was heavily involved in spelling bees, essay contests, martial arts, and sports in general. I grew up competing and I was ambitious.

In terms of hobbies, I was an avid reader (loved the Hardy Boys) and I was also a huge WWE fan.
