Today we’d like to introduce you to Yas Ghafouri.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After I graduated from college, I was offered a seasonal job as a leasing agent for a 236-unit apartment community that was walking distance from San Diego State University. I was planning on working at this community for the summer until I found a “real job” but soon after I became an Assistant Manager, then the Community Manager. What I thought was going to be a seasonal position ended up becoming my career and looking back over these 19 years, I’m so glad I took the leasing agent position because it changed my life. I have now been the Regional Manager of Southern California for Equity Lifestyle Properties’ Encore/Thousand Trails RV Resorts and their manufactured home communities for nearly 3 years.
It’s been such a positive experience working with and for such talented, caring people.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Considering my career path, it’s been a smooth road. I love my job and the fact that I get to help and be involved with such an important decision in people’s lives makes it awesome. Housing is such an essential part of our lives and at times it can be very stressful for people but it’s a great feeling when I can help make the situation better for our residents and make their lives that much more comfortable.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Equity Lifestyle Properties – what should we know?
I work in a friendly, caring environment with Encore/Thousand Trails and we manage more than 400 properties in both manufactured home and RV Campground resort communities across North America. As the Regional Manager of Southern California, I oversee Thousand Trails RV Resorts and Campgrounds like Pio Pico RV Resort which is perfectly located to get to San Diego attractions and Oakzanita Springs RV Campground which is an escape from the day to day rush of big cities. I also oversee beautiful manufactured home communities in the San Diego area like our age qualified Meadowbrook community, which was just named 2017 Park of the Year by SMOAC (Santee Mobilehome Owners Action Committee).
What sets our company apart is our hardworking employees who highlight personal attention to our residents and guests across our portfolio. Personally, I have an open-door policy with my team and they know that they can contact me 24/7. I strive to be very hands on and at the same time a team player who is responsive to any concerns. I feel this has been a positive way to work throughout my career and has proven to be successful within our communities.
How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
I define success as setting a goal and doing everything it takes to achieve that goal. In my world, success is working with families to make sure their move into one of our beautiful communities is an enjoyable journey. It can also be as simple as seeing a resident or guest smile because our hard work made a difference in their lives. One of my ongoing goals is assisting others to help achieve their individual goals and making sure they meet their full potential. If I can somehow play a part in their success, then that is my success.
