Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Calas.
Yesenia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took a photography course senior year in high school and that’s when I knew this is truly what I loved but at the time never thought I could make it into a career. Then life hit and my mom had to leave the country for a year and I needed to help at home and take care of my siblings so I started working at an optometry office full time and did that for 9 years. Then I got pregnant and had my son in 2017, that’s when I decided to follow my dreams and start my business a year ago, it was the best thing I’ve done. I get to create my schedule around my son and meet so many new people and join them in such happy times. I am part of their memories forever.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This is a field that you have to continue learning and you quickly learn you have to stand out in this field with so many talented photographers. You learn how to see light, continue learning posing and how to improve editing.
Yes C Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Currently, I specialize in weddings, couples, families and boudoir. My business is growing for being only a year in, it’s moving in the direction I want which is to do weddings, seeing the love that couple have for one another. I feel editing style sets me apart, it’s clean and full of color. I also like to build relationships with my clients so they feel like they’ve known me all their life.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me about being happy and having the time to do what makes me happy, continue with photography, traveling and being present for my family.
