Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Gutierrez.
Yvonne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always loved makeup since I can remember. Raised by a very traditional Mexican family, I was never allowed to wear it until after my 15th birthday my Quinceñera. I would wear it all after that. Even tho I loved makeup life took me another way I was a Legal Assistant in a law firm I liked it, but I was not passionate about it nor in love with it. One day, my mom noticed that I was not happy with what I was doing with my career and she said do what you love.
The next day I gave my 2-week notice and went to Esthetician school. After a month of being in school my life change completely. I was in class when this new student came into class and her make up was flawless I have never seen a makeup done so perfectly blended and well executed I couldn’t stop looking at her face. Her name is Yesenia Ortiz De la Valle she inspires me to explore makeup and color in a whole different way. She worked at MAC cosmetics at the time. A couple of months later I got a job as a counter manager at Christian Dior. Right in front of my counter was the beautiful MAC counter I was determined to be part of that team.
Working my way there I met my second inspiration my dear friend Louise Orozco know as Lady O. He was incredible every time you would see his make up you would be speechless. His was truly an artist. Each face was a canvas for him. Between Yesenia and Louis, my passion for makeup and for creating magic on beautiful faces was my life. After six months I got my dream job at MAC. The best experience of my life I worked for this company for about 15 years. I met the most incredible people who became friends and family. I got to do fashion shows did lots of body art and even had to work with the paper magazine. Now I get to work for my self.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course in the way there were struggles but thanks to my mom my husband and my incredible, amazing, beautiful late friend Cecilia Garcia Manzo who held my hand all the way. Love you, my friend.
Yvi MUA – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I love doing makeup I am passionate about it. In my business, I do everything Brides, Quinceñeras any important occasion. I am very professional, and every makeup I do has a story that makes every occasion that much perfect.
Something that I love to do with every single client is make them my friend and learn as much as I can about them, so when I do there makeup it translates what they wanted and what they envision for that occasion. I like to connect and to feel what my client wants
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Having my work featured in a magazine and being where I am now.
