Meet Zandro Zafra of zandbox photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zandro Zafra.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Had my first semi-manual camera given to me by my father when I was left home to enter the Seminary? I then started taking photos of our daily life that ended up in our yearbook. After four years of being segregated from the outside world, I migrated to the US to join my family, and that’s when it started to take shape.

Equipped with my first DSLR, Nikon D70s, and a 50mm, surrounded by nature; I started shooting. I was having a hard time figuring out how to use it, so my father lent me his fully analog Nikon F2a that he had since he was a youngin. He taught me how to expose properly without having a working meter on camera nor a light meter and mainly rely on my eyes and what I can see.

I started shooting professionally as an automotive photographer shooting for car collectors, an online magazine and automotive aftermarket companies. Somewhere around that time, I revisited my passion for portraiture which sparked my career as a wedding photographer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was tough especially being an immigrant and starting so young in the industry. Confidence and charisma wasn’t my strongest point back when I started.

It took me a while to overcome all of these, and I learned that for my clients to be able to trust me, I need to trust myself with my craft.
