Natasha Reid of Hillcrest on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Natasha Reid shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Natasha, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day starts with me waking at 5:30am, I have a glass of water to get my internals moving and make myself a nice cup of coffee. It’s my most quiet time so I read abit, catch up on the news, go over my work schedule, and get dressed and ready for Pilates class, which is about 50mins. After I come home, shower, eat, and prepare for my day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Natasha Reid and I am a Master Stylist/ Curly Hair Specialist with 20 years in the industry. What makes me unique within my industry is that I work with all hair types and textures, which honors me with a very diverse clientele. My logo states “Our Hair, Our Crown” and I believe in this wholeheartedly! When our hair is on point, everything else tends to fall into place, and we feel good about ourselves to boot..

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe poor communication breaks the bond between folks. As basic as that sounds I believe it to be true. If you’re not being heard or understood that definitely creates a gap wide enough for points to be missed, feelings to be hurt, and comaraderie to fall by the wayside.
Restoring really takes both people listening to each other to understand. Not just listening to rebute, and open mind and empathy.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that getting through the worst situation, to the other side of that, takes an incredible amount of strength and focus. It’s all on you. So when I have overcome, I realized, wow, If I can do this then I can do anything.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say that I care deeply about how a person feels, and injustice in the world

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I would like to think that they’d miss their incredible hairstyles, but deeply I think they would miss our time together, chatting, deep conversations, laughter
