We’re looking forward to introducing you to Paige Hill. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Paige, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been really leaning into my creative side outside of photography. I’ve fallen in love with coloring and watercolor painting again—it’s such a calming, fulfilling way to unwind. I also adore reading, especially when I can cozy up with a good book at the end of the day. And let’s be real—my 4-year-old is the true creative director in our house! We’re always diving into fun arts and crafts projects together, and I love seeing the world through his imaginative little lens. It’s been a joyful way to stay inspired and connect with him.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey hey! I’m Paige Hill—a San Diego wedding photographer who’s all about capturing love stories in that dreamy, cinematic, natural light. With over 200 weddings photographed, I’ve learned it’s not just about the big, emotional moments (though I love those happy tears!)—it’s about the quiet in-betweens, the little glances, the details you might not even notice in the moment but will mean everything later.
I’m here to make your day feel like your story—not some stiff photoshoot. I’ll gently guide when needed, but mostly I’m documenting all the magic as it naturally unfolds so you can be fully present, soaking up every second with your favorite people.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
For the longest time, I didn’t think I was creative. I went to the Art Institute of San Diego and honestly barely passed any of my basic art classes—drawing, painting—you name it. I constantly felt like I wasn’t good enough and told myself I just wasn’t cut out for the arts. The only thing I felt okay at was digital work.
But fast forward a few years, and I started my photography business… and everything changed. Through my camera, I realized I am creative—I just express it differently. Now, as a mama to a little one who loves arts and crafts, I’ve found myself coloring, painting, and picking up those old mediums again—but this time with so much more freedom and joy. I’ve finally learned that creativity doesn’t have to look a certain way. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about having fun and making something that feels you.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh yes—there was definitely a time I almost gave up. About nine years ago, I made one of the biggest mistakes in my career. I’ll never forget sitting in the back of my (now) husband’s truck, absolutely sobbing. I told him I was done. That it was time to sell my camera gear and walk away from photography for good.
But he looked at me and reminded me why I started in the first place—my heart for serving people and capturing real, joy-filled moments. He told me I could learn from this, grow from it, and come back stronger. So I picked myself up, put new systems in place to make sure that kind of mistake never happened again, and kept going.
Now here I am—12 years in and celebrating over 200 weddings. That moment was a turning point, and I’m so thankful I didn’t let it be the end of the story.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My kiddo is definitely what matters most to me—he’s my why in everything I do. I want him to see that you can build a successful business and still be a loving, present parent. And that having your own passions and dreams isn’t something you have to give up when you become a parent. He inspires me every day to show up as my best self, to work hard, but also to make time for what truly matters—family, love, and joy. Honestly, he’s my little reminder that life is about balance and doing what lights you up.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember me as someone who truly loved love—the kind that’s messy, beautiful, and full of joy. I want them to say I had a genuine passion for meeting new people and capturing their stories in a way that felt honest and real. That I cared deeply about my friends and family, and that I showed up for them with an open heart every single time. Mostly, I hope they remember how much I believed in celebrating life’s sweetest moments.
