Rachel Z of San Diego on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Rachel Z and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Lowriding , is my peace and bring me to cloud 9 , I can be cruising for hours and it will never get old

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rachel , some people call me Too Short baby . However you chose to refer to me is up to you ! My brand/page is @1904.lowridaz that I started back in 2022, and since then I have met a huge amount of people in the lowriding scene and the community ! My page is all about documenting what will one day be Lowriding History ! I document current events , fundraisers , and lowriders in the north county San Diego and San Diego Scene and even Los Angeles as well ! I can’t wait to see where my ride and camera takes me! I’m a little different I’d say with the photography because not only do I enjoy capturing videos and photos but also enjoy cruising and experiencing it first hand and keeping the culture alive. What started out as just videos turned into more , it turned strangers into friends and family , we uplift each other which is so important in this day and age.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is the judging and commenting of others rides or politics , and what restores the bonds is when everyone just gets behind the wheel , no judgement and just enjoys the cruise or event that we are all together at

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Their has been a few times where I have wanted to hang up my camera and even my keys , but the peace both photography and cruising bring me is a huge reason to not give up , not only that but the comments in person and online of people being so grateful for the videos or photos I’ve captured especially of loved ones that are no longer with us , if you don’t think photos or videos are important , just wait til their all you have left. I love editing and capturing moments that are so precious and also progress on peoples builds and rides ! Also lowrider bikes and RCs !

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me , I am outgoing and the scene really brings it out of me , when usually Monday through Sunday I am a mom running around with my son and also my niece who I care for , the shows and events are where I really get to be me , the person who loves seeing everyone happy , loves cracking a joke and making people laugh , love asking people about their builds and hearing their stories and just conversing , it’s so refreshing and many of my supporters actually inspire me ! Some people may paint me out to be a villain but the people who have seen me over the years have seen who I really am

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
What I’m doing today is capturing current lowriding events that some people may be like “ wow their just videos” but those same people will be looking for videos of their rides or a certain event one day to reminisce so I know people may belittle my work and what I do now , but one day the proof will be in the pudding and all the memories and work will be here to look back and reflect on .
