Rising Stars: Meet Aaron Scott Lacy of Normal Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Scott Lacy.

Hi Aaron Scott, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been a hairstylist since 2005, specializing in geometric haircutting. 5 years ago I shifted my focus towards curly hair. I loved the idea of having the knowledge and confidence to serve any texture that walked through my doors. Accommodating every texture on the planet opened up the opportunity to serve an eclectic and diverse clientele. My brand of education ‘A Simple Lesson’ gives me the voice to demystify working with texture while building a foundational understanding of meeting every texture’s needs. I opened my salon ‘Aaron Scott Lacy Hair’ during the pandemic that offers a unique ‘1 person suite’ experience for my guests. When I’m not in my salon, you can find me traveling as an ‘Artist’ for Innersense Organic Beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After experiencing burnout in my profession, I felt a desire to go in a different direction and build something new. I made a point to look for new people to work with and wanted to expand my knowledge in understanding all hair textures. Seeking local models, and college students helped build my profile and the positive word of mouth generated referrals to build my business. The majority of new people that sit in my chair express how challenging it is to find someone who is competent to work with their hair, which is why I share my knowledge on the topic of texture to other stylists wanting to learn.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in working with natural hair texture. The spectrum of natural hair ranges from waves, curls and coils but I welcome all textures in my chair. Creating organic art with my guests is a collaborative effort and suitability is my highest priority. Connecting to learn about their lifestyle, hair history and goals is a genuine interest and helps me better serve their needs. Photography compliments my work and the catalogue of looks on social media gives new guests the opportunity to connect with my art.
