Rising Stars: Meet Alik Christiansen of Oceanside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alik Christiansen

Hi Alik, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cooking has been a true passion of mine for as long as I can remember and my favorite food has always been pizza. At the start of 2024 I was feeling really cumbersome and unfulfilled with what I was doing career wise and decided to take a leap and pursue what I really loved. After seeing the growth of the mobile food scene rising and watching the pizza oven industry closely I knew i had to act fast, so in March of 2024 I resigned from my position as a beverage director and launched Bruddy’s Pizza.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think I can say anything about starting your own business from scratch is easy but there certainly have been more profound struggles than others. Funding and margins are always something we are trying to adjust and work with to maximize our profit to workload ratio and being outside in the elements can present problems with keeping ingredients maintained. Keeping the dough from overproofing during the summer or underproofing in the winter can be hard but we have learned so much along the way and continue to learn as much as we can everyday.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I own and operate a small pop up pizzeria in Oceanside Ca, where we specialize in a modern twist on the classic Neapolitan style pizza. Our dough recipe is something that brings our customers back time and time again which I couldn’t be more thankful for because it took months to develop a unique and consistent recipe. It’s light and fluffy and easy to digest even for gluten sensitive people. I would also say I’m a fairly industrious and creative person which shows in our branding and equipment design.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think taking calculated risks have been a part of my life for a long time . Being interested in things like skateboarding teach you to trust yourself ability but but weary at the same time. I’ve takin that lesson with me throughout my life when it comes to takings risks in general. The biggest risk I took before starting a small business was leaving for college back in 2016 which led to some of the best relationships and experiences I’ve ever had including meeting my wife . So when they say “high risk, high reward” I definitely feel some truth.
