Rising Stars: Meet Annelise Day of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annelise Day

Hi Annelise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photographing unique stories when I was a teenager. Interviewing houseless individuals and women who experienced domestic violence, as well as interviewing and friends and family. Learning about the human psyche was one of my main interests while growing up. I was fascinated with the counterculture movements and how people had progressed throughout time. Exploring the beauty of the natural world around me, especially in California, was another main muse. Photography was one way I could go deeper into my curiosities and allowed me to feel an connected to everyone around me, while somehow remaining objective through the camera lens. It has always been a beautiful craft to me. In addition to my individual pursuits, working with a variety of people including commercial crews, product promotion teams, and creative artists has taught me about the industry at large and various directions I may pursue within the field of digital medias.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, overall. There have been many struggles. My perseverance throughout everything and my willingness to accept opportunities as they manifested allowed me grow and continue to succeed while learning along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a mixed media artist. I incorporate drawing, paint, computer design, and photography into my work. Combining all of these elements results in multi-faceted pieces. I specialize in photography and mixed medias. The human form and sci-fi themes are two concepts I especially enjoy exploring.

Any big plans?
I was born and raised in San Diego and have lived all over the world throughout my life. I recently moved to Oregon and am very excited to explore the Pacific Northwest in a way I never have before. I would love to start making mixed media works that incorporate the trees and ocean here with paints. It is a sort of layering process I find really beautiful. Blending of scenes.
