Today we’d like to introduce you to Antwon Haynes
Hi Antwon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in San Diego, where my family has always been passionate about music and creativity. As a preacher’s kid, I had ample opportunities to pursue creative ventures through our church activities. Singing in the choir, playing bass, performing in plays, and many other experiences shaped my appreciation for the arts.
In school, I enjoyed being in the band from elementary through middle school, and I even joined my high school dance team for a short time. My parents have an award-winning gospel band, and I had the chance to work as a roadie and sound technician for them. This experience allowed me to perform at venues like the House of Blues and the San Diego Blues Festival, among others.
After graduating from college, where I studied audio engineering, live performance audio, web design, and marketing, I began an internship at Cypher Studios as an audio engineer. During my time there, I gained additional skills beyond audio, such as video editing and web design. Eventually, I joined the Cypher Studios team, where I produced podcasts, managed social media accounts, and handled video and audio editing.
When Cypher Studios restructured and became Icon Industries, I took on the role of Multimedia Producer and later Creative Director. Throughout my time with the studio, we worked extensively with businesses, and I had the idea to leverage our resources for creatives. We launched the podcast “Icon Presents,” featuring actors, musicians, directors, authors, and more. We’ve covered conventions and musical events, building “Icon Presents” into a platform where creatives can showcase their projects and audiences can discover and support them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge I have faced so far has been overcoming doubt. When you’re trying something new that will be seen by others, it’s easy to freeze up out of fear of their opinions. Thankfully, I have an amazing support system. With my wife, my family, and my team in my corner, I have been able to push past my own self-imposed limitations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the host of the Icon Presents podcast, I interview creatives in film, music, arts, and literature, giving them the opportunity to share their projects and stories. Icon Presents is unique because it’s a platform built for creatives by creatives. Our team of professionals produces a high-quality show that is visually stunning, and the inclusion of studio performances allows the audience to connect more deeply with our guests.
I am proud of the impact we have had on the creative community. When I receive messages from past guests who gain followers and fans from their appearance on the show, it brings me great joy. I also love seeing the community of creatives connect and grow; I’ve witnessed artists collaborate after joining our show. Those are the stories that motivate us to keep going.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned so far is to not limit myself. If you have an idea and are willing to put in the work to achieve your goals, it can—and most likely will—happen. My dad used to say, “Nothing happens unless you make it happen,” and that has stuck with me in everything I do. It may not come easy, but even if you make mistakes along the way, as long as you don’t give up and learn from them, you will not fail.
