Today we’d like to introduce you to Arvee Gonzales.
Hi Arvee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Arvee Gonzales, I am originally from Guam and moved to San Diego 13 years ago. I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. With my husband Marc, son Wes, daughter Natalie and a very cool dog named Mr. Gustave, I feel very rooted in San Diego. We’re a hat loving family, so naturally we designed Hats!
Recess kid is my love letter to my kids. It represents the joy and carefree spirit of being a kid.
When our son Wes was born, we quickly realized how limited the options were for little boys. Frustrated, I set out to create something better, something designed for movement, play, and everyday activities.
I wanted to make sure I developed our hats with parents in mind. Colorful and high visibility, so you can easily spot them from a group of kids in the playground. I also designed them so that they keep clean and their shape for as long as possible; wash after wash.
That’s how Recess Kid was born! A brand built by parents, for parents.
I’m hoping to continue to build this product to a recognizable brand that kids and parents love. My goal is to open a shop in Downtown San Diego and cultivate the shopping experience that was lost throughout the years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is my first business and I’ve enjoyed every step of it but it is expensive, so be prepared to finance your hobby.
And being in a small business space, my struggle is learning that I can’t do it all. Although by nature, I have to do it all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I specialize in supply chain with a product development focus.
I’ve been really fortunate to work for San Diego born companies through out the years. I’ve learned a lot along that way that helped me form what Recess Kid is today.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
