Rising Stars: Meet Ashley Kym of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Kym

Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started in Waukesha, WI where I was born and raised. I had the privilege of attending and graduating from the Paul Mitchell Academy in 2010, where I absorbed the largest base of my cosmetology education and the roots of where my passion for creating artistic expression with hair began. My passion for learning more and developing my talents more led me to a wonderful opportunity in Orange County, CA where I assisted for over a year. I learned many valuable skills assisting before taking the leap of faith to start my own business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One challenge I faced was having many different specialties in our industry. Choosing which ones to excel in was difficult, because I wanted to master it all! I ended up becoming a blonde, hair extension, and fantasy colored hair specialist. My passion, creativity, and resilience drive success in this industry. With dedication and adaptability, I continue to grow, overcome obstacles, and build a rewarding career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in balayage, hair extensions and fantasy color. I’m most proud of building a loyal clientele through dedication, skill, and genuine connections. It’s incredibly rewarding to have clients who trust me with their hair and create a safe space for them. Knowing that my work not only enhances their confidence but also keeps them coming back is the greatest accomplishment in my career. The relationships I’ve built and the impact I’ve made remind me why I love what I do.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love self motivation books and podcasts. I would recommend books like Atomic Habits by James Clear and You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I also listen to The Mindset Mentor by Rob Dial on Spotify. I try to read one motivational book a month to provide the encouragement I need to push through challenges and stay motivated in my career.
