Rising Stars: Meet Becca Atterbury of Rancho Penasquitos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Atterbury.

Hi Becca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was introduced to photography by my dad who would always have a camera in his hand, capturing tiny moments to remember the days. He would come back from deployments with photos showing off other countries and cultures, peaking my interest and giving me the fire to travel and need to snapshot everything I did from then on.

About five years ago, I got my first camera and started with shooting our family adventures and my daughter as a subject. Slowly I made my way to searching for other subjects and making my way around San Diego to capture the sunsets and mountains. I’ve expanded to portrait photography specializing in couples, family and lifestyle shoots and have made my way from just sunsets to more complex landscapes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle for myself is dealing with “imposter syndrome,” or the little voice in my head saying maybe I should quit trying. There are hundreds of other insanely talented photographers here in San Diego so sometimes it can feel like you’re one in millions and one can start comparing everyone’s work but it’s so important to remember there’s no one way to do art and we all bring our own special value to the craft.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a portrait and landscape photographer who enjoys meshing the two together. Give me epic scenery with happy people and we will have so much fun. I enjoy free, natural posing where you’re just being yourself to bring out a genuine joy in each shot. My goal with photography is to show my clients how beautiful they are at every stage in life and to share my landscapes with people all over the world.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’ve very recently started two different podcasts: Six Figure Photography and Oh, Shoot!
