Rising Stars: Meet Becca + Kizzy Batista + Ezirio of Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca + Kizzy Batista + Ezirio.

Hi Becca + Kizzy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Kizzy and I have been friends for close to 15 years. We had worked together several times, me as a photographer and her as Art Director and in marketing roles. We always talked how we would be a force if we did something together, so we were always throwing ideas out to each other and finally, after years, landed on jewelry. We were able to perfectly merge our passions together into a perfect storm, mine being photography and her marketing. We are both very family focused, so the heirloom style pieces rooted in the idea of the family tree and honoring those we love feels so aligned with who we are as Mothers and as people. “Raiz” is the portuguese word for roots. The idea behind the name is that our love is rooted in the family tree and those we want to keep closest to us. We are two years into our passion project and a so in love with the journey Raiz is taking us on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have had many challenges along the way. When you are doing something completely new, there are bound to be challenges. Kizzy and I are both newcomers to the world of jewelry manufacturing and have had to learn as we go. We spent nearly two years before we launched, doing product testing and sourcing. Even then, we continue to make mistakes. With each new roadblock, we see it as an opportunity to improve our product even more for our customers benefit. We love a good challenge and celebrate when we have a little hiccup. We are both working Moms, so there is always the juggling act of balancing work life and family life. We both place a huge significance on raising young kids and find ourselves working very long days after the kids are asleep.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are so proud of the brand we are building. Raiz is a way to carry those you love most with you on a daily basis. Instead of hiding photos away in a locket, the images of loved ones are proudly shown outwords. We are excited to begin offering a solid gold collection next year, so they pieces will truly be heirloom quality and can be passed down to the next generation. The customer is able to be their own creative and upload any photo file they would like. That could be a travel memory, their favorite artwork by their child, an ultrasound photo, a handwritten little note, the possibilities are endless.

Any big plans?
We are excited to take Raiz to the next level and offer solid gold to our customers. This is always something we intended to offer as these pieces should truly be heirlooms. We are excited to be able to offer this in the coming year!
