Rising Stars: Meet Brent Hyden

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brent Hyden.

Brent Hyden

Hi Brent, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 15 years ago, I picked up my first video camera as I wanted to start filming my friends and I skateboarding around town.

I became obsessed with working on my craft behind the lens and, at the same time, developing an artistic eye for composition and visual imagery. I found inspiration from local filmmakers and began to release some of my work and, as a result, created a name for myself.

After premiering my first film in 2014, I felt like I found my purpose and never looked back. Since then, I have continued to release independent films and collaborate with other artists and filmmakers. Today, I own a video production company and am turning my apparel company office into a storefront in Oceanside, CA.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but nonetheless, I learned to enjoy the process early on. I am grateful for the trials and tribulations as they shaped who I have grown into today.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a cinematographer, I am responsible for the visual aesthetic of each project I am a part of.

From pre-production to production to post-production, it’s a collaborative process when it comes to executing the desired image, look, and feel I am going for. Over time I grew as an independent filmmaker I created a company in the process called Skate Juice. I am most proud of my full-length “Skate Juice 3”.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
My advice would be to start creating with a group of friends who have a vision similar to yours.

It’s important to surround yourself with other like-minded individuals who are also inspired to create something. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and collaborate when you can.
